Udupi: Moodlakatte Institute of Technology students invent smart bin

Daijiworld Media Network–Udupi (EP)

Udupi, May 23: Srinidhi Rao, Pooja N Rao and Santhrupthi Shetty, students of Electronics and Communication division at Moodlakatte Institute of Technology, invented a smart bin model under the guidance of Professor Deepak Salian and Professor Navin B M.

As per survey in Kundapur, it is found that the model can reduce the wages paid, purchase of vehicles and other overhead expenses up to 40%.

The model sends a message to the vehicle drivers soon after the trash is filled in it. The vehicle drivers then fill the trash from the model into their vehicles and go. A camera is installed in the bin. If the bin is misused during its use, it sends a message to the chief officials.

The model is environment friendly. The work of workers and vehicles get reduced with its use. Cleanliness can also be maintained opined Professor Navin B M. College Principal Dr Mohandas Bhat suggested preparing a model that segregates plastic from metal.

Good job. But then we are way behind in waste management in India. Starting from common people to authorities. How many people put their trash inside the garbage bin? Garbage is more around the bin than inside it. Also how many municipalities implemented Incinerators to burn trash eco-friendly, instead of burning in open dump yards. Where is environment protection? Why no such strict measures implemented in Swach Bharat Abhiyaan. Govt is charging cess for that, so no problem with funds.

It is our fate that most of the good projects got emerged in colleges will die during academic years itself due to lac of further interest and poor infrastructure and no proper guidance to implement.

Young budding engineers, good concept, always remember, anything starts with a concept and later will be developed (engineered).

Keep the good work ongoing and try to commercialize this concept.

    Like in USA..Europe...
Supply 2 types of bins and Bags
    1/for Recyclables
    2/Garbage...
To be collected on daily basis..
On a Crusher truck..which can auto load or pick up the bins and discharge,,
take it the Dump an start your recycling process.
start educating and penalizing who pollute..
    those who violate..
    strictly by LAW.

i dont think this is suitable for our mangalore those who donot maintain cleanliness in their house and surroundings do u think they r fit for using this. i have visited many countries, u can see the difference between an european and an asian,
an european if he eat or drink anything look for a garbage bin to throw the trash
similarly if an asian or any other do the same they look around to make sure nobody watching them and throw near the roadside. if i am a lier u can watch in mangalore city some people bringing garbage from home by car or bike/scooter and just dump them near the roadside

This dustbin is great invention, but if you hand it over to government, due to lack of maintenance "Smart Dustbin" will become dustbin by itself. Lol
