Bengaluru, May 24: Businessman B M Farooq is in the lead to become Rajya Sabha from the state from the JD(S) party, it is learned.

There has been intense demand to select Kannadigas for the Rajya Sabha from the state instead of outsiders. JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda has also stated that the JD(S) party has decided selecting a Kannadiga for Rajya Sabha after consultation with other party members.

From then, the name of Farooq has come for discussions in various meetings. One seat is confirmed for JD(S). Hence there is a chance of selecting a Kannadiga, and also a minority candidate.

If the Congress party fields two candidates in the contest, it will be easy for JD(S) candidate to win. But if Congress fields three candidates to utilise the additional votes, there will be tough fight. But if all the three candidates lose, it is going to be humiliation for Congress. So teh JD(S) candidate has a hope.

B M  Farooq said "JD(S) has decided to give an opportunity for a minority candidate who can raise voice in favour of minorities in the Rajya Sabha. There are several people in the fray. I am confident that I will get opportunity from JD(S). Deve Gowda and Kumaraswamy also have discussed this matter with party MLAs.”

B M Baroque is an engineering graduate and real estate businessman. He is also brother of Congress MLA B A Moideen Bava and president of Bengaluru Beary's Association.
