Kundapur, May 24: In a tragic incident, the famous Kundeshwar temple chief priest Umesh Manja was killed on the spot at Ankadakatte when a speeding and carelessly driven car hit him on Tuesday May 24.

Deceased Umesh Manja used to walk daily from his home at Koteshwara and conduct rituals at the temple. He had come walking on Tuesday morning, May 24 as usual to the temple when the Inova car of Kerala registration hit him from behind.

Manja is said to have been thrown to a distance of five meters due to the impact sustaining serious injuries to his head, hands and legs. He died on the spot. The car driver fled as if nothing happened after the accident. Locals who had gone for morning walk identified the deceased and immediately complained to Kundapur traffic police station.

The car was later spotted at Hemmadi. The passengers of the car left it at a garage at Hemmadi and fled. Kundapur traffic police who arrived after getting definite clues conducted inquest and seized it. 

The records pertaining to the vehicle were found in the car and investigation is in progress.
