Udupi, May 24: A press meet was held to review the progress of district in the last three years, here on Tuesday May 24.

District in-charge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, MLC Pratap Chandra Shetty, District Congress president and Byndoor MLA Gopala Poojary, Harish Kini, Nagesh Udyavar, Diwaker Shetty Murali Shetty and others were present during the press meet. Vinay Kumar Sorake provided the information.  A book on the progress made by the state government in the past 3 years was also released on the occasion. 

 

 

Progress 

The district has progressed under the guidance and the help of projects for all round development by the government. While the district is facing shortage of water in the summer, the government has started Paschima Vahini Yojane to increase the ground water level with the coordination of all departments. This will solve the problems of the farmers and fill them with confidence.

Department of agriculture

The government has released funds for Bhoo Samradhi Yojane, testing of soil, starting of Krishi Yantradhare centre, purchase of agricultural machinery and for mechanized farming.

PWD: Rs 321.47 crores have been released for construction of roads and bridges.

In total, 1,33,697 BPL cards were issued in the last three years.

In the horticulture department, funds are released to provide technical expertise to all round horticultural development, beneficiaries of scheduled caste and tribes and under Madhuvana and Honey farming plan.

State tourism department has released funds for self-employment for the educated unemployed youth belonging to scheduled caste and tribe. The department has given ourist taxis and construction of Yathri Nivasa. 24 Tourist spot joints projects are taken up at Rs 23 crores and developed. Rs 9.13 crores are set aside for sea shores.

Development of Fisheries port, exemption of tax on diesel for mechanized fishing boats, transfer of Rs 60 crores subsidy has been directly credited to the accounts of beneficiaries and fishermen. The fishermen’s calamity fund has been raised to Rs 2 lacs.

Department of Public Instruction

Funds are released for Akshara Dasoha, distribution of socks and school bags. Rs 436.94 lacs are paid to children under RTE.

Small irrigation: 105 works are taken up costing Rs 7,544.5 lacs. 1,095 hectares are developed and 37 Kindi dams are constructed. The project report is prepared under Paschima Vahini project for the construction of 332 Kindi dams at a cost of Rs 35,435 lacs.

Social Welfare department: The inter caste marriage support payment is increased from Rs one lac to Rs three lacs. The scholarship payment has been increased. 12,144 students have benefited from the project.

Women’s and Children’s development project: Funds are released for Construction of own Anganwadi buildings, repairs to Anganwadi buildings, upgrading of the buildings and Ksheerabhagya. Rs 4,588.95 lacs in all are spent for it.

Karnataka backward class Development Corporation: 8,176 beneficiaries are distributed Rs 1,913.02 lacs loan. Rs 2,31,83,129 loan was repaid last year.

Department of backward class and minorities: 5,728 students have been provided with Rs 389.21 lacs under Vidyasiri project.

Dairy farming

 62 beneficiaries are provided two cows each worth Rs 20.70 lacs.

Urban development: Rs 15 crores are spent for upgrading and basic facilities of Kaup municipal council. Rs 93 lacs are spent for drinking water project.

25 grams are selected at the rate of five grams each in Vidhana Sabha constituency under Grama Vikas Project in the district. Rs 18.75 crores are spent for their development.

Rs nine crores were spent for development of Taluk panchayat. 168 beneficiaries are given Rs 19.91 lacs under Rajiv Gandhi Chaitanya project.

A team will arrive for inspection as a prelude to declaration of open defecation free district. Bridges are constructed at Rs 168.22 crores under Grama Sadak project.

Department of Industries

 1801 industrial units are registered. Rs 24,209.81 laks are invested. 13,553 people are provided jobs.

Rs 18,125.75 lacs are approved for Varahi project. 93 projects worth Rs 2,659.75 lacs are being conducted.

Kandaya Adalat

 29,723 applications are disposed. Udupi has got first spot in registration of Sakala. 11,54,533 citizens are registered. 40,824 beneficiaries will get paid under social security project. 67 Pinchani Adalats are held. Rs 52,557.59 is distributed as Crop loan.

The beneficiaries are provided compensation regarding Brahmavar Sugar factory. Rs 1,407 lacs are released for basic facilities in the department of health.
