Kundapur, May 26: Despite all odds and physical disabilities, here is a story of a boy whose sheer determination to pursue education has helped him excel in studies.
Born in Mysuru, Yashwanth lost the strength of his legs due to polio. This forced him to spend his time on wheel chair and hence he could not do the formal schooling.
His father who saw his son unable to do anything became an alcoholic. However his mother did not give up and explored possibilities to fulfil her son’s desire of education. She went to Kundapur Manasa special school with her son. After spending a few days there with children, Yashwanth who is a devotee of Vivekananda came to know about Spoorthidhama through Saligrama Divine Park priest. They then went to Spoorthidhama requesting for shelter.
The chief executive officer Dr Keshava Koteshwara who listened to their plight, provided shelter to both the mother and her son.
Yashwanth privately appeared for SSLC and passed it with 277 marks. He has also privately appeared for current PUC examination and passed with 272 marks.
Speaking about his hobbies, Yashwanth says that he likes to write articles. His articles and poems have been published in Balamangala Kannada magazine. He has collected details of children below 18 years who were selected for bravery awards and written an article on them. The article was published in Balamangala. The state government has announced state awards to children who have excelled in different fields. He is collecting information about these children and preparing to write an article. He wants to write an article about Spoorthidhama also.
Speaking about his dreams, he says that he wants to get computer training and be a computer teacher. His pen name is 'Brughunandana' which means that mental strength is superior to physical strength.
All along, his mother has sacrificed everything in order to make her son’s dreams come true.
