17 Kerala ministers have criminal cases, five multi-millionaires

New Delhi, May 26 (IANS): Seventeen of the 19 ministers sworn in in Kerala have criminal cases against them, including three with serious criminal charges, an analysis of their poll affidavits by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) shows.

The newly formed cabinet of the Left Democratic Front has only two 'young' ministers, aged between 40 and 50 years.

Fifteen of the ministers are between 51 and 70 years while two are above the age of 70, the NGO said.

There are only two women ministers in the cabinet.

As for their financial assets, only five ministers are crorepatis (multi-millionaires).

A.K. Balan from Tarur constituency has the highest net worth of Rs.2.36 crore, followed by A.K. Saseendran (Elathur) and Mathew Thomas (Thiruvalla) with assets of more than Rs.1.44 crore and Rs.1.15 crore respectively.

Thomas Isaac (Alappuzha) has the lowest assets valued at Rs.18.67 lakh, with E. Chandrashekaran (Kanhangad) having assets of Rs.20.43 lakh and V.S. Sunilkumar (Thrissur) with assets of Rs.25.24 lakh.
