Tantry responds to temple notice, says it's democratic right

Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur (SP)

Puttur, May 27: In reply to the show cause notice served on him on behalf of Lord Mahalingeshwara Temple here, seeking explanation from him why action should not be taken against him for entering into election fray in Kerala on behalf of a political party, temple Tantry, Kuntaru Ravish Tantry, has stated that temple executive officer does not have the right to serve notice on him in this regard.

Tantry has pointed out that he had been appointed by the department of religious endowments as per the orders of the deputy commissioner of the district. As the temple functions in the jurisdiction of the religious endowments department, he has contended that the executive officer of the temple does not enjoy the power to service notice on the Tantry.

"Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Act does not prohibit a Tantry from getting identified with a political party. No rule prohibits people from contesting the elections. Fighting an election is a democratic right of every individual," he stressed.

He has submitted that he has been discharging his duties at the temple with sincerity and devotion since the last several years, and requested to allow him to continue to do so. He has asked the temple executive officer to withdraw the illegal notice served on him, and facilitate him to continue to serve the Lord as before.
