Kundapur, May 27: Founded in 1975,Coondapur Education Society has grown from Nursery to offering degree courses in the heart of city. The inspirational growth of this institution has been possible due to the hard work of B M Sukmar Shetty who had stood as the backbone of this society. At present, he is the president and the convener of institution.
Coondapur Education society has now four institutions to its credit and wants them to be as premier educational centres in state.
B B Hegde First Grade College, Kundapur:
This college was started in 2010 with talented teachers and non teaching staff. The institution aims to impart education keeping in mind the needs of their students. There are three departments in B Com and a department in BBM. Students from rural background are given special concession in the college. The numbers of students and educational achievements have reached excellent proportions.
The college students have represented the country in sports. In total, 17 students are representing Mangaluru University in different sports and have participated in inter university sports level competitions.
The students have been identified at national levels. NSS volunteer Sanath Adiga has participated in Republic Day Parade and was selected to be India's representative in cultural exchange to be held in Brazil. Final year B Com student Kusha is identified in the country with Yoga programmes.
NSS unit, Commerce association, literature and cultural forum, Lalitha Kala Sangha, Women's forum, Philosophy unit, Rovers and Rangers unit, Red Cross unit, Innovation club and IQAC units have conducted several programmes providing opportunities for their development.
The college has plans to start BCA course, Community development initiative cell, seminar hall, commerce lab and career guidance starting from this year.
R N Shetty, P U College, Kundapur:
It is another wing of Coondapur Education Society. Started in 2003, it has been providing high standard PU education for students from Udupi and surrounding places. Students coming out from here are serving as models in society.
It has spacious laboratories constructed at a cost of Rs 1.5 crores. It has also been holding several cultural and sports activities and holding district level programmes and sports.
It has achieved several records and more than 95% results for the last several years. The results in 2013 were 100%. They were 98.8% in 2014-15. Out of 276 appeared for examination, 104 have passed with distinction and 159 have passed with first class.
PCMB combination student Namratha G Nayak secured 592 marks out of 600 and stood first in Udupi and secured 4th rank in state. Student Sahana secured 589 marks and secured 7th rank.
Principal Navin Kumar Shetty is working hard to make the college a model college.
V K R Acharya memorial English medium high school, Kundapur:
The high school was started in 1982. It is the first English medium school in Kundapur. It has been securing 100% results for the last ten years.
Discipline is given top priority here. There are indoor sports facilities. Students have brought laurels to school on national level by winning Chess, Karate and Table tennis competitions. It has internet connected computer lab, library with excellent books and laboratory.
It has maintained its standard under the leadership of school headmaster Krishna Adiga and sincere hard work by experienced teaching and non teaching staff.
B M Sukumar Shetty has been the inspiration behind the growth of this school. He wants to impart education even to the backward children of society and make a difference in their life.
H M M English medium Nursery and Primary School, Kundapur:
The school has completed 40 years. In all, 1,400 students are studying in different classes receiving quality education. The school has been adopting innovative methods of teaching with the social and scientific growth of children at the centre.
The school will be shifted to spacious and well equipped campus soon. It is providing transport, mid-day meals, assistance by non teaching staff and other high class service.
