Mangaluru, May 27: Large number of people, most of them women gathered near Town Hall Pump house on Friday, May 27. It was not on accord of any event, but was a scene of chaos as people from Kandhuka, Port ward No. 45 took exception to the fact that precious water was flowing to waste in Town Hall premises.

The raged locals said that the water has been flowing since 11 am and the unmanned pump house only made the situation worse because, the alert locals did not know how to handle the situation.

Finally the locals contacted the pump house staff, but they did not turn up at the spot till 1 pm.

Sathish, a local resident said that the taps in the ward have gone dry since the last few weeks. He said that they were shocked to see precious water being wasted here at the Pump House. “It was only on Thursday midnight that water was supplied to the ward. When there is shortage of water, how can MCC act so careless ? We are struggling for every drop of water and the MCC is taking the issue so lightly," lamented Sathish.

The locals say that their efforts to speak to local corporator Latheef failed.

They are demanding suspension of every person- workers, officials and others, who are directly and indirectly responsible for the episode.

The wastage of water comes as a startling example especially when the city has not fully recovered from water scarcity.

    Dear Friends,
A penny saved is a penny earned.Likewise every of water saved, makes a huge difference in crisis.
A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. The water supply & sewage system in Mangalore is as old as 60 years & it cannot withstand the needs today.
A new broom sweeps clean. But,a new broom is not properly handled by. Nothing is happening in Mangalore.......The KUWSS project is still pending & lot of areas in Mangalore are surviving without water supply & drainage system.
A stitch in time saves nine. At least, Wake up now,Plan & prepare for the next season before its too late to become a SMART CITY.

We need intolerance. Yes Intolerance to non- accountability.
What I mean to say is that (1)officials should inform us the public that the employee is held responsible for his dereliction of duty.
and (2)his pay has been suspended for a month.
MCC please do this - this will have dramatic positive effect. We need to set positive examples of accountability publicly.

Every is precious. when we take measures via disciplining that employee only then we can realize the dream of efficient India. We the people of DK are a docile lot.We show intolerance to frivolous issues when we as tax payers for MCC need to make it more efficient to make every rupee of our tax count.

When there is so much water scarcity in Mangaluru any water wastage is crime and the official responsible for this lapse need to be questioned and charged.

Just look at the surrounding of this Pump House. Employees of this Pump House should be suspended for few days without pay. When was the last time this tank Cleaned. Corporators are only to rob us and not for benefit to us. i like to find out to which are this water is supplied and take a sample for Quality Test. BD members do not see this effect but only see which boy goes with which girl so that they can show their Rowdy Acts.

Good to see that at least we are now trying to understand the importance of water. Nature has taught us what happens if we go against it. Let us learn from this situation that water conservation is very important. If we forget then it will be a disaster in the coming years
