Kundapur, May 28: A son, under the influence of alcohol has murdered his mother at Balkooru near Kundapur on Friday 27 May night.

The victim is Sadhu Poojarthi (63) wife of late Annayya Poojary and a resident of Halemane Hithlu, who was murdered by her son Rama Poojary (41).

As usual Rama had come drunk last night and started a quarrel with his mother over some issue. During the quarrel he stabbed his mother with sickle who stumbled to death due to excessive flow of blood around the neck.

Rama Poojary used to consume alcohol in excess and had abandoned his wife and two children at a distant place. Not being able to bear with Rama's quarrels, his brother too had shifted to another house along with his wife. Rama also has a sister who also lives along with her husband in his house.

Since the quarrels were regular in Rama Poojary's house, the neighbours had not taken Friday's incident seriously. On Saturday morning Rama was found telling the passerby people that he had performed the last rites of his mother. Growing suspicious when Sadhu Poojarthi's son-in-law inspected the house. the elderly women was found dead.

Kundapur DySP Manjunath Shetty, assistant police inspector Nasser Hussain visited the spot and guided the proceedings.

Dead body has been sent to Kundapur government hospital for the autopsy.
