Hindu-Muslim couple tie knot, peeved parents accept their marriage

Pandavapura (Mandya district), Jun 6 (DHNS): An interfaith couple in love, who had eloped and married recently, were accepted by their respective parents on Sunday. Thanks to police personnel who mediated between the couple and their peeved parents, who eventually gave their consent.

Naveen (23), son of Revanna, of Harohalli in Pandavapura taluk and a Hindu by birth, was courting Farhana Sultana (22), a Muslim. Naveen was studying second year BSc at Government First Grade College here and Farhana was in the final year at the same college. They were in love for the past two years. As the parents were opposed to their relationship, both eloped on June 2 and entered into wedlock at Brahmalingeshwara temple at Doddabyadarahalli village in the same taluk. Fearing the consequences, they were staying in another district for the past few days.

Meanwhile, Farhana’s father Sardar had lodged a missing complaint in the town police station on June 3. The police, who had registered the complaint, were in search of the couple.

On Sunday, Naveen and Farhana visited the police station at 11.30 am and explained that they were in love and had married voluntarily. They sought protection as their parents had objected to their relationship and may cause trouble.

The police summoned the parents of the couple and tried to convince them, but in vain. Later, the police explained to them that the newlywed couple were majors and it was their duty to protect them as per law.
