Udupi, Jun 6: To observe Environment Day, Silas International School conducted beach cleaning campaign for grades IX and X at Malpe beach on Monday, June 6.

Principal, Deirdra Maben said, “Like every year, this year also we organized campaign to create awareness among public. The year before last year, we tied up with forest department and planted 200 saplings. The previous year, we had a project on water conservation.”

The theme of the campaign was ‘Enjoy the sand and the sparkling sea; put trash where it’s supposed to be!’

The campaign was held in association with Malpe Beach Development Committee.

This initiative to mark Environment Day forms part of the school’s curriculum which enables students to balance academics with civic pride. 

“The students were enthusiastic and we do hope the community will come on board and assist in making our beaches attractive for locals and our visitors,” said principal Deirdra Maben, “After all, the beach is the beginning to what our beautiful locality has to offer. So why not start there?”

“Apart from this, we are educating younger kids at the campus on importance of hand washing before and after food.  Their performance will be measured through grade,” she added.

Nearly 86 students were accompanied by six teachers and principal Deirdra Maben for this mission. 

The Malpe Beach Development Committee commended the efforts of Silas International School.
