Kundapur, Jun 9: When land prices have shot up in Kundapur these days, Holy Rosary church here donated land for the development of road and drainage facilities generously upholding the pro-society concern.

The Maddugudde road connecting Church Road on the right of Holy Rosary church was congested. Discussions on widening of the road could be heard. The town municipal council had requested the Church to donate a portion of their land for the road. Church parish pastoral council and Catholics responded positively taking a decision to donate 200 feet long and 3 feet wide land for the purpose. The decision has been praised by one and all.

Holy Rosary Church has a history of 450 years. The Church in Kotebagilu was shifted to the present place in 1570. Miracle Saint Joseph Vaz, who was proclaimed Saint in January 2014, had served here. St Joseph Convent School has provided immense contribution to education. Innumerable students across religions have studied here during the last 86 years. Holy Rosary College and St Mary's High School are well known for quality education. The donation of land is an example to others.

Catholic community has been contributing in educational and social spheres in Kundapur. Fr Anil D' Souza, parish priest of the Holy Rosary Church said that the land is being donated for development in the year of mercy. “It is an inspiration from Jesus Christ,” he said.

Johnson D' Almeida, vice-president of parish pastoral council said that it is their duty to respond positively for the development of town. “The land is being donated as per the decision of parishioners stressing the need for development,.” he said.

To build or develop a property we have to give / donate land for road widening. Its part of the game and nothing new. Horticulture Dept has donated land now for road widening and concretisation of the Balmatta - Bendur road. But sadly it is not done as per the terms of the contract and there is nobody to check it.
