Colourful Buntsotsava-2007 Celebrated in Oman

Oman, Nov 5: Bunts celebrated a spectacular Buntsotsava-2007 here on Friday November 2, under the leadership of Shashidhar Shetty Mallar, a well-known entrepreneur and popular humanitarian among Indian community.

Buntsotsava-2007 is a perfect blend of dazzling cultural and feasting extravaganza. It is a culmination of the 20th Bunts get together 2007.

The event preceded the cricket tournament on Friday October 19. Sports meet was held at Sidab sports club here on Friday October 26.

It is an annual tradition for Bunts of the city to gather together and celebrate Buntsotsava since many years now. This year being 20th gathering, it was celebrated in grand manner. The host families worked courteously together; taking care to organize and assure that even the minutest details were not ignored  

A traditional Guttu house theme was set up by Divakar Shetty, MD of M/S Multitech contracting LLC with his amazing creativity, made everyone feel that they are back in their native place. Theme was a rare panorama and an opportunity to recall the lost glory with fond remembrance.

Yard was complete with Tulasi katte, Tuppe, Padi manchav, guwell, Basale dompa, aritta mudi, graced by fighter roasters and cattle. The Chavadi was exceptional with traditional pillars with Koral, agricultural accessories and miniatures hanging from the wall and Mangalorean cucumber dangling from the beams. Stage was set up with a backdrop of lush green farming field.

Shashidhar Shetty Mallar gave an introductory note and welcomed the gathering. This was followed by the traditional lighting of the lamp and Sloka recitation by Saroja S Shetty, Sudhira D Shetty, Prathibha R Shetty, Beena G Shetty, Nagaveni G Bhandari and Vanishree Shetty. 

Shankar T Shetty, founder of SAI - Serve And Inspire introduced the host families. Dr Sudhakar N Shetty, senior bunt of the city introduced the new comers and visitors.


Nearly 600 bunts attended the function. Guests enjoyed assortment of traditional breakfast in the morning, lunch with variety of dishes cooked at the venue and served on banana leaves followed by golibaje, bonda, podi and tea in the evening. The arrangements were personally supervised by Shashidhar Shetty Mallar, assisted by Gananath Bhandary.

There were a host of cultural events like skits, songs, folk dances and group dance which gave the event a traditional touch. The event was enjoyed by all those who witnessed it. Children engrossed the audience with fascinating performances. Kishan Shetty and friends presented diverse performances enthralling the audience. Surendra Shetty’s group presented ‘Kurigalu sir Kurigalu’ an emotive and incredible skit on selfish politicians and society.

This was followed by a mesmerizing performance by Mahesh Shetty’s, Namana team’s, group dance choreographed by Deepa Kiran Shetty.

The whole event was conducted and compered by Ramesh Shetty, MD, M/S Hafidh Rawasco Trdg, who kept the audience entertaining with his great sense of humour and spontaneity.

The programme was coordinated by Gunapal N Shetty and multimedia presentation was done by Nagesh Shetty.

To commensurate this memorable occasion a souvenir was released by Shanker T Shetty and distributed among the members and sent to dignitaries in middle-east and India.

Winners of the various competitions and participants of the entertainment events were felicitated by Thimmayya B Shetty, MD of Pancharatna Intl Hotel, Moodabidri, who specially flew from India to grace the occasion.

Ramesh Shetty proposed the vote of thanks.

To sum it up, Buntsotava 2007 was a true success in every sense of the word with the cooperation and   support from all the community members.
