GVOM Season 5: Twelve from Bahrain sing their way into semi-final

Manama, Jun 12: Konkani Kutam Bahrain and Konkan Singers Club jointly hosted the preliminary auditions of the Gulf's premier Konkani singing talent hunt 'Gulf Voice of Mangalore' - Season 5 and chose 12 singers who will now compete at the semi-finals on September 23 for a place in the finals to be held in Bahrain.

The 6 male and 6 female semi-finalists in alphabetical order are:

Male

4. Ronald Fernandes
5. Wilster Prinson Machado
6. Winston Preetham Aranha


Female


1. Lavina Maria Dantis
2. Soniya Pinto
3. Stephanie Michelle Alva
4. Sushma D'Souza Rodrigues
5. Teena Roshan D'Souza
6. Vivitha Sonia D'Souza

A total number 15 male and 14 female contestants competed for a place at the Bahrain Semi Finals and the above 12 qualified.

The preliminary auditions were judged by 3 well-known judges namely the charismatic singer Preema D'Souza from Dubai who has sung in numerous Konkani albums and performed at various musical shows in India as well as in GCC countries and judged many singing competitions. She was joined by Wilfred Barreto, a well-known music teacher who has been training both young and adults for various international music certifications and is one of the prominent members of the church choir and Fr Freddy D'Souza, parish priest of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bahrain who has been instrumental in guiding choirs and individuals at seminary and various parishes.

The event started with a welcome dance by Ashel, Nikitha and Rachelle and was followed by all the 29 contestants walking in procession to their designated seats while the GVOM theme song was being played. Ronald Fernandes proposed the welcome address on behalf of Konkani Kutam Bahrain and Konkan Singers Club. The judges were welcomed with floral bouquets and were handed over the mark sheets. The auditions began with the female contestants singing their songs, followed by male contestants.

Joel D'Sa proposed the vote of thanks. At the audience request Preema D'Souza sang a Goan number 'Beebdo'. The judges were felicitated with a token of gratitude from the organizers and in the end the names of the contestants who qualified for the Bahrain semi-finals were announced and trophies presented.

The event was compered by Walter Dantis and the audience were served snacks and drinks in the end.
