Mangaluru, Jun 13: Rachana, Catholic Chamber of Commerce & Industry, met at St Anne’s Hall, Friary Complex, on Sunday June 12. During the meeting, three eminent doctors from city presented talks on three different topics.
The programme began with invocation, led by Fr Francis Almeida, vice-principal of St Aloysius College. The welcome and key note address was delivered by Rachana president Gilbert D’Souza.
Three eminent doctors from catholic community delivered meaningful presentation on three different topics.
Gilbert D’Souza, president Rachana, introduced Dr Derek Lobo, while Anil Vas, joint secretary welcomed him with bouquet of flowers. Juliet Mascarenhas, treasurer Rachana introduced Dr Norman and Gretta Rebello, Gov Body member offered flowers. Elias Sanctis, vice-president Rachana introduced Dr Christopher Pais while former president offered flowers to him.
Dr Derek Lobo spoke on organ donation on the occasion. His presentation of facts and figures left audience thinking about importance of organ donation. He mentioned about how a couple of people can live because of our generosity of organ donations. Eyes, kidneys, liver, skin etc can be donated, he said.
He also felt that instead of burying or burning our body after death, it would make sense to donate our body to any medical college where medical students can utilize it.
He also said that Mangaluru hardly has any such hospitals where these organs could be donated, except Fr Muller’s hospital for eye donation. He felt the need of the hour is to have a dedicated unit for this and Dr Lobo mentioned that if people gathered here would make up their mind, it was not a difficult task to have one such Unit in Fr Muller’s Hospital.
Dr Norman Mendonca delivered a talk on eye donation. He stressed that awareness programmes have to be organized regarding this.
“Your two eyes can bring light to two people after you are long gone,” he said.
He explained about who can donate eyes, how these eyes are preserved and given to needy.
Dr Christopher Pais spoke on Euthanasia, commonly called as ‘Mercy Killing’.
After the presentation by doctors, Rachana felicitated a young achiever Carine Viola D’Souza, for securing the first rank and gold medal in M Tech.
Anil Lobo introduced Carine while Heera Vas read out citation. Carine’s parents Canute & Veena D'Souza were present on the occasion. President, secretary along with all Gov Body members and three doctors felicitated Carine with a shawl, garland, fruits basket, citation & a bouquet. Carine thanked Rachana for the honour.
Mementos were presented to all three doctors by Nelson Monteiro, Juliet Mascarenhas & Marcel Monteiro. Rachana, secretary Eulalia Dsouza, compeered the programme and proposed vote of thanks.
Lancy & Mable Menezes from Bejai with young Presin D’Silva on key board entertained the gathering with lively music. The meeting ended with fellowship meal.
