Council elections : BJP, JDS, share spoils - Congress draws blank

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Jun 15: In the election held for four graduates and teachers constituencies from the state for memberships of legislative council here, BJP and JDS won two seats each. Congress, which was represented in one of these constituencies earlier, had to give up this seat to BJP this time. This is being deemed as a loss of face for the ruling party.

Basavaraj Horatti of the JDS had won record seventh time from west teachers constituency, while northwest constituency was won by Arun Shahapur of the BJP. In the other two results announced on Tuesday, K T Srikante Gowda of JDS won from south graduates constituency after going through elimination rounds with My V Ravishankar of the BJP in a close fight. However, in north west constituency, Hanumanth Nirani of BJP posted victory, snatching away the seat from Kujalagi of the Congress with a wide margin.
