Mangaluru: Caretaker of aged couple flees with jewellery bag worth Rs 7 lac

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jun 15: In an incident which occurred at Bejai Kapikad in the city on Monday June 13, a person who had been hired to look after an aged couple fled with a bag of gold ornaments. The ornaments so lost have been estimated to be worth around Rs 6.78 lac.

The person who robbed the old couple has been identified as S P Manjunath. Ashwini Kumar had appointed Manjunath for taking care of his aged parents living at Kapikad. Since the last nearly seven months, Manjunath was looking after the old couple.

At around 8.15 am on June 13, Manjunath had left home purportedly for bringing bread from a nearby shop. It is said that duly taking care not to attract the attention of the couple, he had then taken away a bag containing gold jewellery weighing about 260 grams. He was not to be seen thereafter.

A case of theft has been registered about this incident in Urwa police station here.

To every one commenting here,.. Ashwini Kumar's parents are staying with Ashwini Kumar at Kapikad in the same house together. Since the Ashwini couples are working, the care taker is appointed to look after them, when Ashwini couples are out on duty everyday.

Old parents when realize that their children are unable to attend to their needs and take care of them (due to some reasons)should dispose of their property and make arrangements to remain in the care of paid old age homes. In this incident thank God, the robber took away only the gold and left the old couple without inflicting serious injury to their life.

    Flavian,

I totally agree with you. It was fine with our parents who had nearly half a dozen (or more) children, one out of them, irrelevant of gender, looked after them in old age.

Present generation is not like the earlier one. We have two (some just one) children who study and leave the house seeking employment or are given away in marriage. Its selfish to hold them behind fearing our days in old age. Its wise to liberate them and at the same time ensure our security.

Wise to hand over our remaining assets to institutions who will look after us and company of our own age members will be there to drive away boredom.

While looking increasing of crime rate in society..we should not come to the conclusion person is wrong.
There are many reasons besides..apart from his wrong-doings.
Why people commit theft. Reason behind they do not have money to fulfill there wishes. Where we goes wrong. Government which ruled more than sixty years not able to give all the necessity things required for a common man. If we see in other countries people avail all the requirements even medical benefits. Why did government only use people for vote purposes. Day is not too far when we see thieves barge our home while eating food..and we cannot resist thinking of our life.
Here not the question of old people arises. Circumstances made them to walk on wrong path..for which ourselves should blame.
When animals are entering our backyard for food..and manjunath is just a human being.

    Dev Kumar,

A Sixty years old man has children who are educated upto at-least 10th standard because education in government schools is free ? A SSLC pass man/woman can work as min. salesman/girl ? A member here recently told a salesman in Big Bazar gets Rs. 8,000 salary ?

If a sixty year old farmer has three to four children earning 8,000/- a month, imagine the income of entire household ?

How long will you keep cribbing over sixty year old government ? Have there been less schemes for those who have a determination to come up in life ?

Going by your cribbing, even after 50 more years, there will not be a satisfactory reply from people.

Stop blaming the government for whatever state you are !

How did it would have our country better than Shanghai. Just go and watch northern states how poor people are..still no electricity..no good roads..no food to eat...no clean water to drink. Government only involved in looting treasures and mines and nothing as done.
If we see in other countries government giving incentives people do not have employment. Why not introduced in our country. Up to now even in our country by now become crorepati..only by having government grant.
Sad fact..people are just now depend upon Rs.15 lakhs which owed by modiji..what a pity.

    Dear Dev Kumar,
You are comparing our country with the Western countries who take care of their people. Now, remember, ours is the most populous country of over 1.25 billion people. From where the govt will bring money to take complete care of the people, if the well-to-do people like you and me avoid paying taxes and try to snatch easy money wherever we can lay our hands? Surely, poverty doesn't justify robbery. Man should try to earn his living rather than stealing or swindling people. No govt, be it BJP or Congress will be able to improve the standard of the people unless they change ourselves. That is why J.F.Kennedy has said "Ask not what the country has given you, ask what you have given to your country"

UNLESS INJUSTICE, POVERTY, EXPLOITATION IS NOT CONTROLLED THE HAVE NOTS WILL TURN TO DESPEREDOES!

Its bound to happen.as everyone's are too busy in their own life, taking care of elderly parents is outsourced.there are plenty of manjunaths to take advantage.
THIS is eye opener for the presnt generation..work hard, save huge.. dont spend everything on kids. keep substantial amount with yurself.stay fit..make lots of gud friends.. learn latest tech to manage yurself. most importantly " NEVER EVER RELY ON OTHERS not even with yur closest relatives" ALWAYS strive for independent life.

Our farmers are suiciding due to loan OR damage of their corps.
Now the day has come to common man to suicide for increased rate for daily consumables. Oil price is recovering day by day slightly. If it reaches $100 per barrel GOD knows what happens in INDIA.

Whether it is Congress or BJP, all come in the disguise of caretakers and then loot the public during daylight! Truth is we are fools to vote them to power to take care of us as there is no other alternatives left but to opt for the same robbers!

@Acchu Mangalore,It is easy to ask why dont children take care of parents.I find when children have to work, there is nothing wrong to employ someone who take care during their Absence. Here only they did one Thing wrong to Keep Gold or Money to Keep at home unlocked? The man was not honest.many old Age homes too are not what they praise. In such cases, better care at home even with caretakers than be lonely looking to roofs in homes.

    Kudos...Ashwini Kumar.

    1. For appointing such a person to look after aged parents.
    2. For offering 'extra incentive' for the care taker.

No wonder 'Old Age Homes' are flourishing.

There other Ashwini Kumars deposit their 'aged parents' after taking into account all other calculations.
    Where are we heading....??
Really 'Old Age' is a curse nowadays...

Anybody may ask why did Aswini Kumar not open a locker to keep the old couple's jewellery before appointing an outsider to look after them.

Who will explain these old people ? Good that they are alive - in many cases life is lost over precious metal !

Our culture not permitted to attack especially elderly people while committing crime.
See what happened in kerala..where in son murdered NRI father for not given share in the property.
Also in kerala students chopped off fingers of professor even though we treat them as a guru.
Much differences..you won't understood. Need hours to advise.
