Puttur: Lorry crushes woman to death, angry locals pelt stones

Puttur, Jun 15: In an accident which took place at Golithottu near here, a woman died on the spot.



Janaki (35) from Konalu is the person deceased.

The lorry was coming from Uppinangady towards Mangaluru. It hit Janaki while she was walking on the road. She died instantly.

Driver of the lorry fled from the spot.

Following the accident, angry locals gathered at the spot and pelted stones at the lorry, damaging its windshield.

A case has been registered in Puttur police station.

Janaki was the main cook for mid-day meals at Golithottu school. She was on the way to work when the accident took place. Janaki was a member of Puttur taluk Akshara Dasoha employees union.

    May the Soul of the deceased rest in peace.we cant always give the fault to the Driver when a accident happens or death.The pedastrians too many times cross the road without looking right or left.In a very narrow place Driver too cant avoid dashing.Of course Driver fled from place may be to avoid himself from stone pelt from locals.Sad he could have explained the Situation ,and say sorry to Family.Noone observed the accident?Heartfelt sympathy to the Family.

    "Pelt stone" Angry locals...angry people..... Angry public... Nowadays such lines feels joke.. Innocent die on road like their lives are nothing. Better pelt stone on authorities, officials and concerned politicians. Impliment such strong punishments on rackles divers as everyone think twice b4 speeding.. May God protect all...

    Pedestrian killed by the vehicles is due to no footpath to any roads in our country, and specially during rainy season people can't use side-ways due to wet & muddy. This is the main reason.

    Couple of factors here. First thing and more discussed is on the escape of the driver from the spot. It's basically done to avoid any life threat for the driver. Because many cases, even thought the mistake would be from the pedestrians, may times drivers got hit badly by the public since victims will be localities and these drivers are not from the local vicinity. That's why they escape. Second point, yes, narrow bridge. Might have happened like lorry came slightly closure and woman is hit. that could be because of the mistake from the other vehicle passed through coming to closure to the lorry and in turn he has gone to the side... Many things could have happened... no point in pulling these along... general opinion , seeing so many reckless driving and fatal accidents during recent days, first blame comes o the driver only. Any eye witness , if there, can say what exactly has happened...

    Before some start commenting on hanging/jailing/fining the driver... please look at the spot where that women being run over. Its a brigde... that too a narrow one. From the center line there isnt enough space for a human to walk safely.

    its drivers mistake only..as u can see, its an open road after bridge..that means driver can see from far if anybody is there in bridge or nearby..driver dint slow down if not he was overtaking in that bridge.

    Sick and Tired to see daily such news. In this case it seems victim is at fault. But recklessness of Driver can not be ruled out. Even pedestrians should be cautious while crossing busy road.
