Onir to make documentary on Down syndrome

New Delhi, Jun 16 (IANS): Filmmaker Onir, known for directing films like "My Brother... Nikhil" and "Bas Ek Pal", will next helm a documentary on Down syndrome.

He has been roped in by the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne to make and direct the documentary based on the health condition to create awareness about it.

"The subject of inclusion and human rights have always excited me and have explored it in fiction... I could identify with the theme at once. I am excited that it will premiere at Indian Film Festival of Melbourne," Onir said in a statement.

The 80 minute long documentary is currently underway and will be shot in Delhi, Pune and Chennai.

It will feature children who are suffering from Down syndrome and also focus on inspirational success stories of such cases where they have successfully managed to overcome the condition to live a sustainable life.

The documentary will be screened at the festival, which will begin in Melbourne on August 10. It will subsequently release digitally.
