8,799 out 29,100 concerns have not renewed licences

Mangaluru, Jun 16: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) will shut all the shops of the traders who are running various shops in the city without renewing their licence,” said Kavitha Sanil, president of MCC standing committee for health and education.

Kavitha was addressing the media in the MCC premises on Thursday, June 16.

"Around 29,100 persons or establishments have been given permission for various trade activities within the MCC limits and out of them 8,799 have not renewed their trade licences for the current financial year. Those who have not renewed their licences must file applications to MCC within a week and must get the licences renewed by the end of this month. The shops which fail to do so, will be shut down by MCC after end of this month." Kavitha added.

She also said that an outstanding amount of Rs 21.76 lac is yet to be collected.

She asked all the traders to display their trade licence at the front portion of the shop which is a must by law.

She reminded that the anti-plastic drive will continue in the MCC limits and any shopkeeper possessing plastic carry bags will be fined. If they repeat the same, the trade licence will be cancelled, she said.

Massage centers

When asked about increase in number of massage centers she said that the applications submitted to MCC for these parlous are under the category Ayurvedic parlours. "We identified one such case and that parlour has been closed. In the future, if anyone submits an application for any type of parlour, I will personally verify the type of business." she said.

MCC joint commissioner Gokuldas Nayak, chief whip of MCC Shashidhar Hegde, corporators Premananda Shetty, Deepak Poojary, Latha Salian and others were present.
