Mangaluru, Jun 17: Unhappy over the fact that there has been no progress in construction of Golf Course at Tannirbavi even after a year since land was handed over for the project, Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner (DC), A B Ibrahim, walked out of the meeting in a huff during the meeting convened to discuss the issue at his office on the evening of Wednesday June 15. The meeting was also attended by additional DC, Kumar, managing director of contracting firm, Prakash Shetty, and several officials.

The DC wanted to get details about the golf course works from the officials and contractors. He also expressed resentment at the fact that no work had begun over the golf course even after year since two acres of land was allotted to tourism department for the purpose. When the officials and contractors tried to evade the subject by giving vague replies, the DC turned angry. Accusing the officials and contractors alike of behaving irresponsibly, he angrily walked out of the meeting midway.

Dayanand Shetty, district president of Tannirbavi Residents Association, accused the government of providing facilities to private entrepreneurs at Bengre and Tannirbavi, while denying title deeds, house number, underground drainage, drinking water etc to about 3000 families living there. He said that the district administration has now been trying to shunt these families out.

Democratic Youth Federation of India district committee has accused the deputy commissioner of illegally sanctioning land for golf course at Tannirbavi.
