Mangaluru: Tailor from Mudipu kidnapped, robbed of cash, gold

Mangaluru, Jun 18: A group of four unidentified men in a Scorpio vehicle kidnapped a tailor running a shop at Mudipu junction on the night of Friday, June 17.

Dharanappa Poojary (42), has got himself admitted in Puttur government hospital now. He said that the kidnappers robbed him of cash and gold jewellery before throwing him on the road near Puttur.

Dharanappa Poojary, originally from Mani, is staying in a rented house near Mudipu post office. He has a tailoring shop by the name D M Tailors at Mudipu junction. When he was closing his shop at about 9.30 pm on Friday, a stranger came to him saying that he had to get a trouser stitched. As the shop was closed, the tailor went near the Scorpio vehicle from where the stranger had come. Meanwhile, four people in the car together kidnapped tailor Dharanappa in their vehicle. Dharanappa’s wife Jayalakshmi lodged a complaint about his disappearance at Konaje police station at Friday late night.

Dharanappa who was admitted in Puttur government hospital on Saturday June 18 morning said that the kidnappers in Scorpio vehicle first took him towards Kerala and then towards Mangaluru. But again they changed their mind and took the vehicle towards Uppinangady. But before they reached Uppinangady, they saw police checking vehicles on the bridge and turned back. They assaulted the tailor, robbed Rs 10,000 cash and gold chain weighing four sovereign from him before throwing him out of the vehicle near Puttur, and then they fled.

The injured Dharanappa who did not know the place slept at the bus stand at night and went to Puttur government hospital on Saturday morning by auto rickshaw.

It is said that the police are suspicious of involvement of notorious criminal Rafiq in the incident. Investigation is in progress.
