Mangaluru: When government fails to act, Good Samaritans join hands, fill potholes

Mangaluru, Jun 19: Enraged by the increasing number of potholes, a female constable, a rickshaw driver and a local performed a good deed by filling the potholes with stones on Sunday, June 19 evening at Bendoorwell circle in the city.

Home guard constable Rekha, auto rickshaw driver Boobanna and local resident Pradeep carried the stones in a rickshaw tempo and in Boobanna's rickshaw and filled the potholes.

Speaking to Daijiworld Boobanna, who is driving his auto rickshaw for past 20 years said that an injury to two bike riders yesterday evening motivated them to do this good deed and a shopkeeper also sponsored a rickshaw tempo to bring the stones.

"Glass of one of shops got broken by the stone which flew after getting stuck under a vehicle's tyre. And two bike riders got injured after their bikes landed in the pothole here yesterday. During every monsoon movement becomes very tough here because of potholes. The reason for this is the leakage in one of the pipes underground." Boobanna said.

Some locals gathered asked as to why cannot the nearby residents and people's representatives U T Khader and Ivan D'souza take initiative to find a permanent solution to this as they travel on this road.

Traffic ACP Udaya Nayak has appreciated the constable's work.

Mr Roshan Rodrigues, your comment is absolutely 100% correct. There is one more in Kadri Ward. Real? you know what. There are few more identical Carbon copy Corporators who are fit for banners only. Forget, We do not like banner show but even the street dogs do not like it. They do their job on the banner pole.
Corporators only do the jobs where they can fill their Pockets with black money.

Really a appreciated work by Home Guard Lady, Auto Driver & locals to join their hand for public road. Minister UT Khadar busy in save his minister post. Ivan is busy in preparing one more Konkani Speech to give speech in VidhanaSabha to became another time Joker for Christian Community.
Its an work of local municipality to prepare the city for rainy season by repairing roads, drainages, strengthening electrical polls, trimming road adjacent trees & issue warring for any old building in risky position to be fall in rain season.
We can see the Cooperators/MP/MLA/MLC only at the time election & later on they are busy in making plan to snatch money from peoples/contractors to increase their bank balance, because they know very well that they wont be elected for next term..

ACTUALLY this is the biggest mistake good guys are doing.we are paying 1000's of crores as tax where it goes.even a small 2 bedroom flat in m'lore pays around 1200/-(500 extra as garbage collection) annual municipal tax.plots which had 1 or 2 houses earlier now have 10/15 floor huge buildings housing 300 to 500 flats.now multiply 1200(minimum) into 300 you get the idea that much extra money goes to m'lore corp in just 1 acre plot!!! look around the city, 100's of huge buildings pouring unimaginable amount of money in to sink hole called m'lore city corp.WHAT happens to that who swallows such a massive amount.. now this income only from residential do the arithmetic for 1000's of commercial shops, hoardings..ad spaces.. yet this pathetic city corp so hopeless it cant even give us decent roads can you believe it.so WHY should anybody help this useless corrupts corp.lets pay taxes to these GOOD GUYS directly at least we get some result.
EVEN war ravaged afghan capital kabul has much better roads than us!!! shame on m'lore city corp & its utterly lazy staff.

When people, specially a lady officer can do the road repair work, do we still need ministers, govt. or Corporation bodies In the state. Moreover do we need to pay the taxes to the local authorities while people do their own arrangement for bad roads? Fail to understand this.

These good Samaritans are doing what is good for Public Safety. But how many appreciate this kind of act.
Few years back, I was doing these along with my workers from Mangalore to Valachil. We did this for about three years plus. Our life was in so dangerous state that We have given up. While filling the holes,Bus drivers were blowing their horn and harassing Us as if they had Death Call appointment in Emergency Room. In one incident a conductor got down from bus and asked us to move in rude way by yelling at Us. That was the end of our Good Samaritan Act.
There are few People who do not work but always follow MLA and MLC everywhere they go. These People own Cars and Bikes along with Gold Bracelet and Gold Dog Chain around Neck. Public can see them more near Circuit House. How they get this kind of wealth, just being a Tail End of MLA and MLC. These People can fill some holes instead of hanging around Circuit House

i dont think our city is a smart city. better to give new name path hole city!!!
please use your common sense!! i was in mangalore during march 2016. i was waiting for a bus to go to bantwal on the same path hole route. i saw nearly 5 or 6 huge tankers and trailers passing that way within a gap of 20 minuites
imagine now if there is a pipe under this and if the road is made up of concrete/asphalt i can give u guarentee no one can stop of becoming holes on roads, first stop these heavy trailers and tankers, then everything will be fine

Why they are doing all these things.
Just put all stones in front of MLA's homes. Now it's become habitual for tbese people..some one will work for them. Better dig holes in road..from where politicans vehicles plying. If wants to do the work..do it properly and not half finish. Why has given permission to women police personnel to do these job. Take action against her.

Good work by the citizens on doing something good. But what about the road, it is been in the same condition every year after some faulty work by some third rate contractor. Is the corporator of this area blind?

Mangalore corporators and Engineers will be more happy to see the people doing their job so that they can pocket more money. Their attitude will be "Let the people do" let the people surfer. It is duty of the concerned minister to call a meeting before the monsoon starts and discuss how to handle this pot whole and bad roads problem. There is an emergency number to call but are they respond in time is the question to asked.

All the developments that have place in mangalore over the years is all because of the people of mangalore. Nothing to do with politicians or government. Just plain old locals,NRIs,businessmen from different religion. Hindu,Christians, Muslims have contributed equally despite our difference that have been exaggerated by politicians for their benefit. I only pray we stand united: Cheers
