Mangaluru, Jun 21: Various parts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Kasargod districts received good rainfall on Monday June 20. Most of these places got heavy rain during the evening.

Sullia, Bantwall and surrounding places registered torrential rainfall. Puttur ad Beltangady got normal rain, with Moodbidri getting rainfall in the evening. Udupi and Kundapur taluks also recorded good rainfall.

Karkala taluk got rain on Monday evening. Several low-lying areas were inundated and movement of vehicles and people was hit because of rainfall.

Panambur received the highest of 12 cm rain in entire state. The meteorological department expects thunderstorm to continue in the coast for three to four days more.

Puttur: Old man slips into storm drain, loses life

Puttur, Jun 21: An old man slipped when crossing a storm drain having considerable water flow, and died after falling into gushing water. The incident occurred at Bedrala here on Monday June 20.

Narayana Acharya (70), a resident of Bedrala, lost his life in this incident. He used to work on ornaments at home. As was his practice, on Monday afternoon, he started from home for taking a trip to the town. When crossing a storm drain that is located on his path, he lost his balance and fell into water. As there was heavy rain at that time, water was flowing with considerable force, and he could not stand on his own.

His family members came searching for Acharya, as they were concerned at the fact that he had not returned home even during late evening. After a thorough search, they found his body in a water pit a little downstream the storm drain.

Acharya has left behind wife, two sons, and three daughters. A complaint stands registered in the town police station.
