Daijiworld Media Network-Kundapur (RJP)

Kundapur, Jun 22: Unidentified thieves made unsuccessful attempt on Tuesday to steal from St Antony Church at Kandlur near here. The incident was discovered on Wednesday June 22 morning. The thieves had broken the lock on the left door of the church.

The church which was a sub-station of Basrur parish was made independent church on June 10 and Fr Victor D’Souza was sent as parish priest. From then morning Masses were offered every day. When the regulars came for the Mass on Wednesday, they found that one door of the church was open. Later it was discovered that the thieves had searched for valuables in vain. The collection from the alm box was collected by the management recently and hence there was no much money in it. It is seen that the thieves have thrown the things on the floor.

On June 5 night, some miscreants had vandalised the statue of St Antony at the same church. The incident had come to light on June 6, when some people came to the church for morning prayers.

Udupi district superintendent of police (SP) Annamalai, DySP Manjunath Shetty and other police personnel had visited Kandlur then and had taken up investigations. This theft incident has taken place before the miscreants could be apprehended.

It is yet to be known whether it was a theft attempt or an act committed with the intention of disrupting religious harmony.

Sub-inspector Nasir Hussein and other police personnel from Kundapur visited the spot with canine squad and finger print experts. A complaint has been lodged regarding the incident.

    Shankar,

War of words will always be there with each incident. That is necessary because we are ALWAYS being provoked by controversial /superstitious people like you. Moreover we know exactly what questions you will put forward. To make a dialogue more fruitful and result oriented it is expected that there is a common wave-length between both parties leaving out any scope for suspicion. You can't blow your trumpet loud all the time.

    Rita,

In maximum cases thieves/communal instigators are bachelors. Cursing them over grief stricken to an area is like 'Ko'nana munde kinnari baarisida haage'

For how many time it needs to be attempted to steal to understand that Churches do not hoard money or gold as temples do ?

When the first incident occurred, its obvious that a CCTV needs to be installed. But its understandable that a newly built church will have limited funds and parishioners in remote locations aren't so well off to donate funds.

Well, let them attempt again and again but we should not lose our cool. Our faith can't be pulled down by these minor occurrences.

It's learned that Dakshina Kannada parishes are highly collecting money..and latter on transfer to other cities in Northern Stat and North East States.
Money donating here by people are much as compared to other cities as most of them serving abroad.

yes we are donating and our institutions and religious dont setup business with the money donated for eg, baba, sri sri sri, and we are proud that we have donated money internationally and in India when people suffer during national calamities, If the money is been illegally donated to the North East let Modi bring it from the North EAst and then from Swiss if not Yeddy is free for the next 22 months.

@ Shankar very irrelevant response. if the thief is a Christian we unlike you will see that he is punished unlike you bjp and rss we will nvr discriminate legal action based on religion and pleas do not try to put your division here by saying we are against hindus. bjp rss are politicians they do not have any religion only after money power and to play divisive role so that they can rule forever.

    Shankar,

There was a Hindi movie in which the heroine gets down for a bath with a second a train passes. When the train gets away, she comes out of bath. A sardar went 25 times hoping the train will be late some day.

Similarly, CCTV will not be installed. Let the robbers enter day after day hoping there will be gold/ornaments. What do you say ?
