Kundapur, Jun 22: Following the shocking road accident near Movady Cross Trasi, NH 66 between Omni car transporting school children and private bus which claimed eight children’s life and injured 12 others, black day was observed in Hemmadi gram panchayat. Schools and shops remained voluntarily closed on Wednesday, June 22.

Black flags were waved at Sulse and Moovathu Mudi area to pay homage to the departed children.

Hemmadi auto drivers and owners who called for bandh on Wednesday have urged that the officials and people representatives should console the families of deceased children, announce appropriate compensation to their families and initiate strict action against educational institutes and drivers who violate rules while driving.

They added that there will be violent protests otherwise. "The cause of accident may be violation of rules or excessive speed but the children have gone to the world from where they will never return. Though several accidents involving school vehicles have occurred in front of us, neither the department of education nor the institutes have thought seriously about them. Besides this, parents too have not shown serious concern about children's safety. These lapses are said to have increased accidents," they added.

The last rites of Royston, Ananya and Nikita who had died in the accident will be held in Tallur church on June 23 at 4 pm. Those of remaining five children will be held in Gangolli church at 11 am that day.

Calls for Tallur bandh

The children who died in the accidents were the residents near Tallur. Therefore a voluntary banth will be held in Tallur on Thursday, June 23. No shops will be opened that day.

"The district deputy commissioner has been asked to recommend payment of compensation. State women and child development minister, Umashree, has obtained information about the incident over phone, and expressed her deep concern about the catestrophe. I will raise this issue at the district level Protection Committee meeting and ask the concerned to lay more emphasis on safety of children. Again same mistake doing. What you achieve after all by bundh. It will affect all especially people who depend upon daily wages. Instead all come together and agitate in front of concerned authorities with strong protest..as these people not apply strict rules. What happened is very bad...but also think not make same mistake in near future.

I suppose it is a voluntary closer than a forced bandh. I see it like a sign of solidarity towards the victims and their family. Sometimes it may be good as people themselves will learn better lesson when the grief is suffered and shared by people collectively .

Imact: inconvenience, lose of income and disrupt daily life. Rip to kids. There are so many ways to express your solidarity instead of bundh. Instead sitting idle and observing bundh create road humps, sign board and arrange proper transport for school kids that is solidarity.

If that is so, even a moment of silence shown during certain ceremonies in honour of victims is a waste of time.
Well of course, the time spent during watching titillating serials is really time well used.
What about one minute silence shown to our father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi on 30th January, isn't that a waste.

This is a black day not only for any particular region but entire Humanity. The nature had (unfortunately have to use past tense as many of what nature had is missing now) given everything for all the creatures of this planet to co exist without any problem. But it is one specie called Human who is boasting of God is having special love on them is destroying it. It is shame that, we are leaving this world back to our future generation so unsafe and so empty. What are we all running for ? Our earlier generation had infact problems of lack of food , clothing and life style and they fought for survival. But not, many of us have so much we cannot consume it . Then why are we do restless ? Why can't we be a proper human being and think that, we must leave this world in such a way that even our Children can enjoy all we had enjoyed ? We will not be able to change everyone but,

at least my request with the people who are reading this comments is that, let's respect the traffic rules, let's respect the traffic right, let's allow pedestrians cross the road by stopping the vehicle fully and not wading through them. Let's have concern to Mother Nature let's pick up plastics where ever we find it and discard in a right place. I am following this for last few years and my aim is to request my fellow citizens to show some concern to our planet , for our future generation.

We read with sadness the tragedy that unfolded snuffing the life of eight beautifully children. Our deepest condolences to their families. We also read of the knee jerk reaction of the police of taking to task the drivers of the ill fated vehicles. Here I would like to inform the general public as to how other countries protect the children.

On our recent trip to Australia we observed that 'School Zone' boards are prominently displayed 5kms from the School with the timings displayed informing all traffic to reduce speed to 30 Kim's per hour both 30 mins before opening and closing time .Learners who forget to observe this important traffic sign are deliberately failed and have to apply again .Blaming the drivers alone is passing the buck. All traffic passing School zones should reduce the speed of vehicles 30 mins before school opens and closesTraffic volunteers should be compulsorily stationed during this period .I hope my suggestions are read and suitable action taken .May the souls of these little angels rest in peace.
