Udupi, Jun 23: Kaup MLA and former urban development minister Vinay Kumar Sorake had a narrow escape after a Scorpio car overturned at Ambalpady here on Thursday June 23.

The Scorpio car bearing Mangaluru registration was moving towards Udupi along the NH-66 when, at Ambalbady, the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car hit the divider and toppled on the other side of the highway.

At the same time, Sorake was travelling from Udupi to Kaup and the Scorpio almost fell over the MLA's Innova. Luckily, the Scorpio only hit the front part of the Innova, and both Sorake and the driver escaped unhurt.

The passengers and the driver in the Scorpio escaped with minor injuries. Their identities are yet to be ascertained. The Scorpio was badly damaged.

Soon after the accident, Sorake resumed his journey in another car.

Traffic was affected for sometime as a result of the accident.

Udupi traffic police have registered a case.

Main problem the dividers are unscientific. They are too low and too close to high speed lanes. If the driver swerves a little in fast lane it topples.

Hope Sorake got a taste of the unsafe nature of this highway!?. I dont know on what basis this highway can be considered world class. Its completely shoddy work throughout. Everywhere there is water logging on the road itself and muddy water gets sprayed from one side to other side causing temporary blindness to drivers and losing control over vehicles. Many of the curves are not inclined in the direction of turn resulting in center of gravity shifting to the side of vehicle and causing it to topple. But still hefty toll is collected!.

I have serious doubt about this highway design.

If there are proper end barrier uncontrolled vehicle will stay in the same side of the road.

This case even endangers the opposite side.

There is lack of quality and standard laying Indian state highways.

As a result we have witnessing nearly 5 lakh deaths per annual on roads.

so many accidents.Speed breakers is not a solution. People have to change and learn traffic rules and defensive driving .Authorities shall bring stringent traffic rules and detection tools on highways and heavy fines to make smart city and reduce road accident.Political leaders shall ensure roads are maintained ,highways construction stalling for years shall be completed .

Vehicles on this Highway are going at a speed of 120 to 140 km/hr. Now at such speed these accidents are bound to happen. Use Speed breakers... Let there be control over the speed.

We have better roads but more accidents now. Unless public learn to drive to slow especially during rainy season such mishaps will happen again and again and many lives will be lost. Here luckily no one is hurt. Hope there are no more accidents. I feel sad eveyr time I hear a news of a accident May God bring peace and happiness to all

We have good roads no doubt. But during rainy season if you drive with a threadless tire ( look at all the tires of Scorpio) these kinds of accidents are inevitable. Safety should be given priority with upcoming new roads, which works good during summer, but drivers should take care of the tyres during rainy season. Hope everybody is safe in all the vehicle involved in this accident.

Very Sad Incident. But one point to be noted in general, Vinay Kumar's Innova has a single digit number printed in his car's number plate, whereas as per RTO rules if any vehicle bearing single digit number needs to be prefixed to zero's. Is that rule applies only to us?? Genuine replies welcome.

he is from mangalore but to get that fancy number, using political power, he registers his vehicle in dandeli..for registration address proof is required.is is possible for a common man?? so the concern raised by you becomes silly in front of political power.

Roads may be good, but they are unscientific in design. Eg, the reason the vehicle toppled over is because of the divider. The road authorities must place concrete barriers so that the vehicle does not cross into the other side of the dual carriage way were it can be more dangerous if it hits on-coming traffic. recently a truck crossed the divider and hit a car killing all occupants of the car. Barrier would have prevented it.

Ambalpady bridge is under construction, and all other highway work is almost completed the road is very good now, people must very care full on this roads .
this will happened only due to careless and negligence driving.as per me biggest mistake during cut turns by keeping left drivers come right side to take u turn.
