Mangaluru, Jun 23: For the benefit of international air passengers, the procedure for obtaining export certificates for high value items has been further simplified by making the form available online.

In a press release, Dr M Subramanyam, commissioner of customs, Mangaluru has stated that the format of export certificate has been made available on the commissionerate website www.mangalorecustoms.gov.in under a separate link 'export certificate'.

"Passengers can download the format, fill in all the particulars or enter the particulars directly online and take printed copies of the same. The passengers should carry the same printed copy of export certificate in duplicate with them to the airport and present the same to the officer manning the designated counter for this purpose at the departure level of the airport," stated the press release. This will also reduce the time taken in issue of such certificates.

As a measure to facilitate international passengers, export certificates are provided for high value personal items including gold jewellery to the departing passengers, if they intend to bring these items back to India.

"It is advised that passengers going abroad may obtain export certificate for jewellery and other high value articles carried by them so that no duty could be paid on the said articles on arrival in India. The jewellery and high value articles to be taken out of the country on departure may be presented before the customs authorities at Mangalore International Airport well in advance to enable ascertaining of correct value for issue of export certificate (if not obtained online). Alternatively, the passengers may provide documents like purchase invoices/valuation certificate issued by the authorised valuer in support of their claim for valuation of jewellery/high value items towards obataining export certificate," the release stated.

No. meaning in wasting time running here and there, going to airport for this purpose only. If customs really want to help the passengers and avoid harassment : Why can't customs enter the valuables in the passport with the dates? (which was prevailing long long back).
