Shivamogga, Jun 25: In an incident which happened inside the court complex here on Friday June 24, relatives of the wife of a man attacked him with lethal weapons when he had come there for counselling in the family court relating to a family dispute. A R Shashikiran (33), residing in Halasur in Bengaluru, who suffered deep injuries in this attack, has been admitted into a private hospital here for treatment.

Shashikiran had come to the court with some of his friends. At the sight of Shashikiran outside the court, father of his wife, Soumya, flared up. Soumya's father, Ramesh, who is a former president of Agricultural Produce Market Committee here, suddenly drew out a machete and attacked his son-in-law with this weapon. Shashikiran escaped from him, ran into the court, entered the room of the judge and closed the door. As it was lunch hour, the judge was not present inside the room.

Shashikiran had married Soumya three years ago when he was working at USA. After marriage, he had taken his wife there. Soumya returned to India after eight months, and did not return to her husband. After two years, Soumya filed a complaint against her husband.

The court had fixed Friday afternoon for counselling. Eyewitnesses said that relatives of Ramesh actively supported the said attack. The general public, lawyers, and staff at the court were shaken by this sudden incident and some even filmed the proceedings in their cellphones. Advocate for Shashikiran later said that his client is out of danger now.

Jayanagar station police personnel visited Shashikiran at the hospital and obtained his statement. Relating to the attack, a case has been registered against seven persons including Ramesh, Soumya, and others. At the same time the family of Soumya too lodged a counter complaint against Shashikiran.
