Mangaluru, Jun 26: Social activist, Harikrishna Bantwal, termed lack of action on the part of Karnataka State Child Rights Commission relating to the accident near Trasi which claimed the lives of school-going children recently as strange.

He noted that the president of the commission, who hails from coastal Karnataka, has not visited the spot after the tragic accident. "She also has never felt the need to meet the members of the bereaved families and console them. Travelling to educational institutions and back to homes safely is the right of the children, and the child rights commission is responsible to see that this right is protected. Taking part in programmes and delivering high-sounding speeches results in waste of time. In cases of such magnitude, the concerned should immediately respond and work with sincerity and concern for the victims," he noted in a press release.

He wanted to know from the government whether the president of the said commission is in India or abroad at present. He commented that when giving important posts like these, people with proven track record and ability should be chosen, and not just because of the concerned are close to the corridors of power.
