Mangaluru, Jun 26: As reported earlier, Yuva Brigade leader Naresh Shenoy, the prime accused in the murder of RTI activist Vinayak Baliga, has been arrested after being on the run for nearly three months.

Confirming the arrest, police commissioner Chandra Sekhar on Sunday June 26 told a press meet that along with Naresh Shenoy (39) was arrested by Mangaluru city crime branch (CCB) near Hejamady, contrary to earlier reports that he was nabbed in Kerala.

The police commissioner also said that during investigations it was revealed that Shenoy had even destroyed evidence in the case, besides hatching the murder conspiracy with the others accused in the crime and paying them for the same.

Asked where Shenoy was hiding till now, the commissioner said that Shenoy had visited Gorakhpur, Lucknow, some places near Nepal border and also Jammu and Kashmir.

He said whoever had helped Shenoy abscond from the city would be booked under section 212 of IPC for harbouring the accused.

He also said there was suspicion on a person named Vignesh who would be taken into custody soon.

The commissioner asked the public to send information, if any, to the police regarding the Vinayak murder case. “The names and identity of the persons who give us information will never be revealed to anybody." he said.

Motive behind murder

The commissioner said it was not possible to ascertain the clear motive behind the murder now as interrogation of the prime accused is still in progress. But Vinayak Baliga being an RTI activist and involved in many RTI petitions, the conspirators wanted to eliminate him, he said.

When asked if the issue of Shree Venkataramana Temple could be the main reason for the murder, Chandra Sekhar said it was not possible to draw conclusions at this stage. But he ruled out the role of underworld elements. "The conspiracy was hatched here in city by the accused," he said.

He revealed that Naresh would be produced in court soon and additional chargesheet will also be filed at an appropriate time.

Vinayak Baliga was murdered on the morning of March 21 this year. So far, the police have arrested Vinith Poojary, Nishith Devadiga, Shivaprasad alias Shiva, Shailesh alias Shailu, Manjunath Shenoy and Shrikanth in the case. In the chargesheet, the police have named Naresh Shenoy as the prime accused. Only Manjunath Shenoy is out on bail with other being in jail.

Moving on to other issues, the commissioner said that an awareness programme on the dangers of drug abuse will be held in all school and colleges from Monday June 27 and there will be a rally 'Run for Drug-free Mangaluru', on July 1 at Nehru Maidan at 6 am.

Tulu language training for police

The commissioner said that a 10-day Tulu language training programme for the new police recruits has begun in the district. "22 police personnel have been trained so far. A training programme in Beary language will also be introduced soon. Konkani is also on the cards. 34% of police personnel are from outside Dakshina Kannada," he said.

The body language and eyes of Commissioner reveals under what pressure he is handling this case. For any human it is difficult to handle such situation. I feel sorry for poor Baliga family. My sympathies for you. Don't keep any hope to get justice. Now it is Kaliyuga. However, if they eliminate one Baliga, hundreds will born. May God bless & protect Baliga family.

Salute to Police for not daring to show the accused. If the accused is of poor background(politically and financially), then our Police will put an extra efforts to catch the accused and even they use Rope to tie the accused and drag.

What a toothless and shameful police department we have. Really a big big shame. How easily police is revealing that the evidence is destroyed. Good game played by administration on the behest of the mafia. Sab paise ka khel. Many have commented why his pictures are not revealed. Police will only reveal the pictures of chain snatchers, small time thief's along with them (big chors in uniform)because they are from poor background. Who knows where he is, in jail I doubt. Fugitive and future CM or PM ????

But Naresh is in good terms with police team. What will be your next suggestion..in this connection..so can apply immediately.
It seems Naresh accustom all police personnels with him and nor police personnels arrested Naresh.
There is the difference..should view from both angles if possible.

They have definite information on every vehicle carrying cattle. But accused absconding for three months hiding in twin district is untraceable is surprising.

Tomorrow it seems Mangalore Bandh called by Bajrang Dal,Ram Sena and VHP to release the accused since he has no evidence.

Don't be surprised if local politician sitting Dharna for his release.

This case will be closed with backdoor channel with interference local powerful religious leader with handsome amount to victim as a settlement.

The BJP will never see Namo founder sitting behind bar.It will make all out effort getting 'clean chit'.

If Commissioner acts he will be third one to be transferred in less than two years.

It reminds me also of Justice Somashekar commission drama few years back- evidence was lacking.

The arrest of the prime accused is reported as " accused" in our Kannada daily . It suggests to me that " there is organizational and infrastructural support"

It is also clear from the Police statement of " evidence has been destroyed" their helplessness with this "organized" effort and the extent to which they have gone to spend money to make a mockery of the law enforcement, law to their benefit.

I am appalled by the journalistic ethics of our Kannada daily to support a " prime accused" on the run by under reporting and minimizing the news.

If he were some one else then the very same daily would have sensationalized the news.

In a major setback to the 2008 Malegaon blasts case, seven statements of witnesses - all recorded in the presence of a magistrate and admissible as evidence - have gone missing from the Special NIA Court.

Later Calling Karkare’s probe ‘dubious,’ NIA s MCOCA, rejects confessions of key accused.

During investigation, "sufficient evidences have not been found against" Pragya Singh Thakur and five others, the NIA said, adding it has submitted in the chargesheet "that the prosecution against them is not maintainable".

Why only in 'Digital India' files goes missing and evidence destroyed?

He found in 'Hejmady' and cops are look out in Dubai and UP.

This is classic example of saffronisation law enforcement which 'Cobrapost' in sting operation revealed.

I am sorry for Baliga old parents and sister. This is closed case even before it begins. There won't any justice in this case.

Earlier police had instructions to go slow on this case by the HM so that the evidences could be destroyed! Now being the right time he was caught dramatically and will be produced in Court! Everything related to this case looks like a drama! Looks like police already washed their hands by making it public saying evidence is destroyed!

Dear Commissioner sir, please do a thorough investigation no matter how bad is the political pressure. Please get to the bottom of the crime. Arrest the people who supported in hiding the suspect even when police was searching and sent look our notice . So that no one dares in future to do such a crime and get away with it. Please publish his pictures to media so no one is above law. Petty thieves are made to sit and pictures are clicked how come the suspect in murder who was absconding for such long time not see in pictures.

Commissioner Saheb can you go in to deep who harbored him all these days?He was taken in to custody from Hejamady?unbelievable!!!!Now those who hide him and helped him getting evidence destroyed should be brought to book with suitable IPC.

We are of the opinion that destruction of evidence,as police says, itself a blanket "could be bail"possible is unfortunate and we know that this case could be going astray ....
