KSA: Debate Competition for the Sir Syed Memorial Trophy Held

Riyadh, Nov 12: The open debate competition for the Sir Syed Memorial trophy, among the boys and girls of Indian schools was held recently at the auditorium of International Indian School here, organized by Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association (AMUOBA) as a part of the Sir Syed Day Celebrations with the active cooperation of the city IIS, informed Dr. Mohammad Ahmad Badshah, general secretary of AMUOBA in a press release.

The function opened with a welcome note to all the guests, judges, participants and audience. The guests of honor present on the dais included principals and vice principals of both boys and girls Sections, president of AMUOBA, Riyadh, Dr. Riaz Mehdi and  general secretary of AMUOBA, Riyadh, Dr. Mohammad Ahmad Badshah. principal, boys section, IISR.  Manzar Jamal Siddiqui was the chief guest. The judges were Dr. Naila Danish, Raina Abu Zafar and Ahsan Masood.

Principal girls section, Zeenat Jafri made the necessary introductions. Dr. Riaz Mehdi briefed the audience about AMU old boys association, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, his educational missions, establishment of Mohammedan Anglo Oriental College and Aligarh Muslim University and relevance of Sir Syed Day celebrations by the Alumni of AMU. He also spoke about the future educational events for the students to be organized by AMUOBA. All the participants spoke very well on the occasion.

The chief guest Manzar Jamal praised each and every participant who took part in the competition and expressed his opinion about the great education reformer and legendary Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. Further, he praised AMUOBA for taking such an initiation and fulfilling the real mission of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan.

Results were announced as follows:

Topic for seniors: "Indo-US nuclear deal is in the national interest of India".

Girls: First Prize - Asma Al Nahdi of Class XIIA, IISR
Boys: First Prize shared by two participants:

 1. Shah Ikhlas Khan of Class XIL, IISR
 2. Sagar Varma of Class XIB, IISR

Topic for juniors: "Sachin Tendulkar should gracefully retire from one day cricket."

Girls: First Prize - Rijul Labroo of Class IXQ, IISR
Second Prize - Sameera Hameed of Class XM, IIPS

Boys:  First Prize - Justin George of Class XB, IISR
Second Prize - Malcom of Class VIIB, IIPS

The "Sir Syed Memorial Trophy" was won by the girl’s team.

The general secretary, finally announced all the winners who were to be the special invitees of AMUOBA for the forthcoming Sir Syed Day function to be held on 15th Nov., 2007 at Holiday Inn (Minhal) hotel and they would be receiving their prizes from the chief guests of the function retired justice Rajendra Sachar - the chairperson of the famous "Sachar Committee" report in the presence of all the Aligarian Alumni of the city.
