M'lore: National Disaster Reduction Day Mock Drills at Milagres College

Mangalore, Nov 12: There was fire in the school. Immediately, home guards' personnel rushed to the spot and evacuated the students from there. Thereafter, they saved the casualties and took them to the hospital in an ambulance.

This was the scene created by home guard personnel, as part of National Disaster Reduction Day celebrations held at Milagres Pre-University College, organized by Dakshina Kannada (DK) Home Guards and Civil Defence, DK Fire and Emergency Services and Milagres Pre-University College on Monday, November 12.

The Home Guards personnel and Fire and Emergency Services personnel exhibited various tricks to save the casualties, on this occasion.

There was a hut in the ground. Someone set it on fire. Suddenly, fire engine rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire. The different ways to spray water-jet and different methods to extinguish fire was exhibited on this occasion.

Earlier, stage programme was held in which Western Range IGP A M Prasad, additional district magistrate S A Prabhakar Sharma, Milagres Pre-University College principal Fr Lawrence D’Souza and Home Guards district commandant Dr Shivaprasad Rai were present.

    Ms. Ophelia, Your right fire fighters do not have protective jackets and as you said incase of real disaster god only should protect them. Do you think our Indian concerned authority will reply you for this. Mera Bahrath Mahaan in these kind of circumstances. Any way appriciate your thought regarding the fire protective clothing which only you noticed in this whole Daiji world.

    happy to see fire drill . but feel sad to see our dear fire fighters are not provided with protective clothing or safety gear. in the event of real disaster if caught in the fire what will be the fate of the fire fighters???. once injured and bed ridden who cares?can the concerned authority review this asap please.
