Mangaluru: Chicken lovers are not happy with prices shooting up

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (EP)

Mangaluru, Jun 30: When the fish and vegetable prices shoot up during monsoon, the only other nearest option is chicken. But chicken lovers are unhappy now as chicken prices too have shot up.

The fish has the scarcity due to fishing ban for two months. Price of vegetables going beyond reach is natural during rainy days. But the chicken price did not go up as there was enough supply to meet the demand in the previous years. But that is not the case this year.

Live chicken was available for between Rs 75 and Rs 100 per kg just two months ago. The price has reached Rs 145 now. Flesh is priced between Rs 170 and Rs 180 which is beyond the reach of common people.

People, who depended on chicken when fish and vegetable become expensive, are uncomfortable with the current trend.

Chicken dealers say that chicken fever in northern part of the state two months ago had an adverse effect on poultry farming there and the number of chickens decreased. Now chicken from south gets transported there causing price increase here.

Water is essential for poultry farming. Due to scarcity of water in April and May, some farms were closed in Dakshina Kannada district. That too has contributed to the price rise. Besides poultry is also being sent to Kerala due to Ramadan, fasting time for Muslims.

Presently, days are not good for chicken lovers.

It's very unfortunate that we do not have any regulations on the amount of steroids pumped into these birds. It's quite astonishing that a few years ago it took 65 days for chicken to gain weight of 1.75kgs., now this has shrunk to about 28 days. The greed for maximizing wealth at any cost is destroying our people and most importantly our little ones who relish on the broiler chicken without realizing that we are consuming steroids in the chicken.

It's high time that we have stict regulation to define the threshold limit of steroids/harmones being injected on the birds and declaring safe for human consumption.

This apart coming to the real issue on prices, it is nothing but a cartel playing its ugly game here - while there has not been any reasonable increase in the input cost for the birds, the price of chicken is skyrocketing from 80 per kg to 175 per kg.

    God alone save us.

BJP is a very health conscious party and wants the general good of Indian population. Beef was banned as it creates high cholestrol, Tomato is expensive as it causes kidney stone, chicken will make you fat and eating dals will develop gas in your stomach leading you to fart. Despite such great work, still Sickulars complain. Shame on them and time to send them to Pakistan.

Kumarji: 90% of the rubber production in India is from the State of Kerala, India is the third largest country in the rubber consuption. The Kerala economy is running mainly due to the rubber cultivation and the inflow of gulf money. 40% of the people of India working in the GCC and other oil producing countries are from Kerala.

Mr. Modi to entertain the industrial sectors of the nations which are using rubber, the import of rubber is permitted with less import duty deliberately to undermine the economy of Kerala. Now, from Malaysia, more import with less import duty, thus the non-BJP State of Kerala will be economically crippled very fast.

You are not blaming the Government for the galloping inflation in the food price but blaming the local chicken suppliers.

While the demand and supply side meet, when the demand is high and the supply is low, the price will go up and vice versa.

To keep the inflation in food materials, the Central Government has to liberalize the import of food items with zero duty. You are now trying to put the blame on the CM. Is he controlling the export and import of India?

Due to the less demand created by the world-wide economic slow down, demand from China began to slow down before the BJP came into power.

Now the actions being taken by the BJP Government is to make the price decline far worse in the rubber producing States of India.

Dev Kumarji: In the stores, we can get the leg quarters, 10 lb packet for $ 4.50 - 5.50 range all over the nation. The same thing if bought by container load, $ 2.30/l0 lb price. The freight per container, 40 ton will be around $ 4000.00/container, from the sea port in the U.S. to the port in India.

Chicken gizzard had almost no demand in the U.S., but it has great demand in Russia, so the price went up. Now hardly any import from the U.S. to Russia.
