Mangaluru, Jul 2: Cracking the whip on business establishments functioning without licences and violating the plastic ban, officials of Mangaluru City Corporation on Saturday July 2 raided several shops in City Centre Mall and sealed them.

The raid operation was carried out under the initiative of chairperson of health, education and social justice standing committee of MCC Kavitha Sanil.

On Friday July 1, the team had raided and sealed two shops at KS Rao Road for operating without trade licence.

Speaking to reporters, Kavitha Sanil said that notices had been issued to the shops for renewal of trade licences and to follow the plastic ban, but as they failed to adhere to the rules, they have been sealed. "We raided City Centre Mall today. People should not think that only the small traders are targetted. Over 8,000 traders are yet to renew their licences. If they apply for renewal or issual of new licences, we will issue the same within two days. I urge the public also to cooperate." The MCC had given June 30 as deadline for renewal of trade licences.

"Traders should understand that there is a time limit for the renewal. The renewal was supposed to be done in February and now it is July. So they should act immediately if they have not done the renewal. If right documents are submitted, I assure you that, renewal is done without any delay." she added.

The team comprised corporators and standing committee members, health inspectors, health officer Dr Manjappa Shetty and environment engineer Madhu. The team raided the shops at City Centre Mall, during which it was found that a garment showroom of a well-known brand was operating without trade licence. Incidentally, the same store had been ordered to close down during Friday's raid, but as it failed to comply, it was sealed on Saturday.

Also, the team raided a hypermarket in the mall and seized 42.3 kg of plastics, including carry bags, spoons and cups, Sanil said.

    not only plastic,but paper also.

dear MCC, please go green, urgently.

allow the renewal of licence online, without wasting time of the small business people. if they keep running to MCC, is it not loss of rvenue for them, will you compansate them?

all MCC works like property tax, khatha generation, renewal of licence, water bill paymnet, etc should be available online.

do are telling that within two days, renewal will be done, are you sure?

show us one case where it is done in two days.....

please go green. make the option of online for those who know internet. this will stop curruption at MCC office, avoid brockers.

brockers are the biggest current hazrd of MCC. there are a few who have "full-time"job at MCC to do office works of peopel by charging professional fee . they get the work done fast, by spending extra to....

install CCTV at whole MCC, make all MCC works online.

If they ban plastic, then no business will ever run. Everything is packed in plastic.
What about marriage functions where the food is served in plastic plates or styrofoam which is very carciogenic.
Are we going back to banana leaves ?

MCC plastic drama.MCC does not have guts to raid big bazar who giving out plastic bags and charging for it. Catch the big fish if you can, little ones follow.

Stop this drama instead look inwards check your department.

Let the small business survive, as they do it in bombay.

Why is it there is no plastic ban in bombay. There should no exception in rules.

Like this in Mangalore 1000 of shops are running without licence, the full issue is known to all the officers of MCC , but still these are live and happly running by the grace of MCC officers only. So it better MCC should take serious action , but not make a drama in front of media, And also Most of the shops are running the Buisness beyond thier limit of Licence. This has to be checked by the MCC officers , Then only Mangalore may become a clean city.

Land of intelligence and place of intellectual, only on paper . Awareness can be thought for kids. As a civilized societies member, everyone needs to know do and don't. Selling on street, expired date, low quality products with high publicity, open defecations - stop all this. Then dream of smart city. Smart city without smart brain is equal to flower without smell of fragnence
