Mangaluru: Hundreds of young aspirants get career tips at Vikas PU event

Mangaluru, Jul 3: "Your success in your career will be in direct proportion to what you do after you have done what you are expected to do. There are several career choices with vast opportunities but in the past there were only two sectors - agriculture and manufacture. Career must be attractive - it is not just for earning, it should be for life. Don’t take shortcuts, instead pursue your career, lead it with determination, hard work, dedication and purpose, which will make you successful," said A B Ibrahim, deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district.

He was speaking at a career guidance programme organised by Vikas Education Trust held at Besant Women's College auditorium here on Sunday July 3.

Guest of honour Walter Nandalike, founder and managing director, Daijiworld said, "Education is not a business. Vikas Education Trust has done a wonderful job by giving Rs 75 lac as scholarship. Career guidance consists of services that help people successfully manage career development. Although this aspect of human development occurs on its own as we mature, everyone can benefit from assistance navigating through this process."

Krishna J Palemar, chairman of Vikas Education Trust, presided over the function, trustees Koragappa and Suraj Kallya, Dr Ananth Prabhu, advisor, Prof Umesh Bhushi, principal of Sahyadri college, Prof Shivakumar Magada, director of Krishi Vijnana Kendra, Venkat Rayudu, principal and Mohanna vice-principal were present on the dais.

Deepika Shetty, lecturer compered the ceremony, while principal Venkat Rayudu welcomed and Vidya Kamath, lecturer proposed the vote of thanks.

The focus of career counselling programme was generally on issues such as career exploration, career change, personal career development and other career related issues on various fields, with interaction by resource persons. Prof Shivakumar Magada, director Krishi Vigyan Kendra highlighted on 'Parenting and Agriculture', Prof Umesh M Bhushi, principal of Sahyadri College, spoke about engineering, Dr Nandakishore, homepathic consultant spoke about ISMH, Vipin Narayanana, coordinator, Vikas ACE explained about scholarships, Prof Vasudev N Shet, HoD of architecture at Srinvas College highlighted the scope in his field of expertise, Dr Sharwak Ramlan, MBBS, assistant professor at Yenopoya College inspired the students to take up medical and dental streams, and Dr Ananth Prabhu, advisor of Vikas PU College enlightened them on the next generation courses.

Students and parents of Vikas PU College and students of various colleges were present and interacted with the resource persons.

    I also request them to upload the session wise video & make it available to the general public, who could not attend the program.

    Sir, also please think of conducting similar program in Udupi too.

    Excellent workshop. From the start till the end, the momentum was ever increasing. I am sure the students would have loved the sessions, especially Dr Shivakumar and Prof. Vipins.
