Mangaluru: Jackson D'Costa elected president of ICYM central council

Mangaluru, Jul 4: Jackson D'Costa of Vamadapadavu church was elected president of the ICYM central council of Mangaluru diocese during the 69th annual general body meeting of ICYM held at Urwa church hall here.

Election was also held for four other posts and the list of newly-elected office-bearers is as follows:

President: Jackson D'Costa, Vamadapadavu
Secretary: Ancita D'Souza, Kulshekar
Vice-president: Wilson D'Souza, Allipade
Lady vice-president: Lavita Miranda, Neermarga
Treasurer: Ashwin Sequiera, Borimar
Auditor: Aneesh D'Souza, Alangar
Joint secretary: Aneesh D'Souza, Suratkal
Regional representatives: Sheldon Crasta and Fayal D'Souza, Puttur.

Former president: Alwyn D'Souza, Agrar

Diocesan director Fr Ronald D'Souza administered the oath to the new office-bearers.

The programme was presided over by vicar general of Mangaluru diocese Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu. In his brief address he appreciated the programmes organized by the outgoing central council and wished good luck to the newly-elected office-bearers.

Addressing the gathering, president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Roy Castelino said, "If we want to maintain unity we must work together irrespective of the election results. Today's youth are good and educated. This I feel is due to the training you get in ICYM."

Playback singer Prajoth D'Sa called upon the youth to grab all the opportunities they get. "The opportunity I got in the church choir made me reach this stage. Utilize your talents in the right direction and success will be yours."

Parish priest of Urwa Fr Stany Pereira also spoke on the occasion.

While the outgoing president Alwyn D'Souza thanked all, newly-elected president Jackson D'Costa sought everyone's support.

ICYM Youth Achiever awards were presented to young achievers from the diocese.

Along with the general body meeting, the annual cup distribution ceremony was also held and top ten parish units were honoured on the occasion.

    The pictures really shocked me as I found no difference with those pictures we see in political elections. This is an organization of Catholic Church and there should be a difference, discipline and respect. We should not make this to happen again. Instead take a decent, dignified and respected group photographs with our church leaders and let our ICYM move forward to buildup leadership skills, Team Development and grow spiritually. Appreciation and Good luck to the new Team Members.
