Udupi, Jul 4: The sea waves have become ferocious near the shore at Malpe. The sea has eaten up retaining wall stones and interlock beside the sea and the local people have been spending days in fear.

Though people have heard that permanent breakwall will be built around the sea shore for the last four years, people's representatives including ministers, MLAs or local representatives have not responded despite continued sea erosion. There is only usual work of keeping boulders in the places where the old ones are washed away.

Permanent breakwall is yet to be a reality. The interlocks for the tourists and the residents to walk around have now gone in the sea.

Though complaints were submitted to city municipal council (CMC) president Meenakshi and vice president Sandhya by lifeguard staff Mohan, who saves the lives of tourists and searches dead bodies in the sea day and night, there has been no action from the authorities. The council engineer has stopped bringing sand and boulders to the place now as they cannot be transported here.

Pramod Madhwaraj, the local MLA who has been appointed minister of fisheries and district in-charge minister, should take some initiative to build permanent breakwall and get the waste material in the seashore removed creating a safe environment for the tourists and local people.
