Dubai, Jul 4 (Khaleej Times): The General Department of Traffic of the Dubai Police has urged residents to report any kind of traffic violation as the country gears up to welcome Eid Al Fitr.

Colonel Saif Mohair Al Mazroui, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said that the Dubai Police will intensify traffic patrols with an intention of reducing traffic accidents and ensuring the safety of people during the last days of Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr holidays.

Colonel Saif Al Mazroui noted that traffic jams are expected as in previous years, making the department intensify the deployment of traffic controllers and policemen across the emirate.

He pointed out that the Dubai Traffic department has adopted precautionary measures which include formation of teams of traffic controllers to regulate traffic in the markets and crowded places, and to intensify patrols in the highways including Emirates roads and the Dubai Bypass and Ras Al Khor.

The police will also intensify patrols in places with population density to prevent the phenomenon of pedestrian crossing from non-allocated areas.

Colonel Saif added that night patrolling will be intensified to monitor vehicles and bicycles engaged in serious traffic violations.

He stressed that the Dubai Traffic department will not tolerate reckless driving and urged the community members to be part of 'we are all police programme' by contacting 8004353 and report violations or aggressive driving or breaking of traffic laws.

Al Mazroui said that the plan to regulate the traffic will also facilitate the movement of entry and exit of vehicles of worshippers at mosques, and also ensure safety of people visiting shopping centres, markets and other busy areas that witness crowds during the last week of the month Ramadan.

He called on the motorists to take caution while driving to avoid traffic accidents and stay away from speeding as reckless driving and overtaking from road shoulder and other violations.

Colonel Al Mazroui said the Dubai Traffic department will redouble their efforts to protect the lives and property of residents during the Eid holidays.
