Udupi: Elderly couple threatened, robbed of gold, car at Malpe

Udupi, Jul 4: An elderly couple at Pavanjegudde of Badaniduyur under Malpe police limits was threatened and robbed in the wee hours of Monday July 4.

The incident took place at the residence of Dr Devadas Bhat, where he lives with his wife.

It is learnt that at around 2.30 am, when the couple was asleep, two young men, aged about 25 years and masked, dug a hole into the terrace door, unlatched the door through the hole and gained entry into the house. Thereafter, they just sat inside the house.

When the couple got up at around 4.30 am, the robbers threatened them with knife demanded to hand over all their jewellery except the mangalsutra. The robbers looted the couple of ten gold coins weighing two grams each, two bangles weighing 30 grams, Rs 500 cash and also took away their Hyundai i10 car.

It is said that the youths were interacted with each other in Tulu but threatened the couple in Kannada.

SP Annamalai, DCIB inspector Jaishanker, inspector Srikanth, Malpe SI and DySP arrived at the spot and investigated.

A case has been registered in Malpe police station.

    I have no comments except the elderly couple are alive and safe. The robbery must have taken under whatever circumstances but these thieves looted whatever they could get hold of except the lives of the couple.

    MONEY GOLD CAR CAN BE RESTORED IF THEIR CHILDREN ARE FINANCIALLY SOUND!! NOTHING IS MENTIONED IN THE EPISODE ABOUT THEIR CHILDREN, BUT WE HAVE TO THANK GOD FOR THEY DID NOT KILL THEM!!! WEALTH NO PROBLEM AND BY LOOKING AT THE HOUSE , THIS HOUSE IS NOT AT ALL SAFE TO LIVE ELDERLY COUPLE, THERE ARE MANY EASY ACCESS POINTS FOR THIEVES.AND ONE MORE SURPRISING WHEN THEY WERE DRILLING HOW COME POOR COUPLE DIDNT LISTEN SOUND!!!     Robbers must be their relatives or known to them. Exactly they dug the whole in the door where latch is located inside the door. And might be even know what time couples wake up every day. Hope soon they will be caught.

    Dr. Devidas Bhat one & only doctor of Kemmannu area in 1970's. Thieves might not be knowing that their parents taken treatment from this doctor.

    What a decent robbers !!!!

    Got in around 2.30, threatened the couples around 4.30 once they got up. Took everything thing except Mangalasutra.

    Tulu patherondu kannadod threat.

    Must be new in this profession.

    Thefts are increasing day by day in Udupi taluk. This incident on the elderly couple is really a pity. Respected SP Annamalai sir we look upon you to increase vigilance in Malpe, Udupi and Kadekar area and bring these culprits to book immediately and rigorous punishments to be imparted to them.
