Five students mistaken for cattle thieves thrashed at Ramanagara

Jul 5, Bengaluru, DHNS : An excursion, meant to be full of fun and frolic, turned disastrous for five students from Bengaluru after they were thrashed by locals who thought they were cattle thieves. The incident occurred at a village in Katukanapalya, Ramanagara district, early on Monday.

The victims have been identified as Amruth Jai, a fourth year MBBS student of Rajarajeswari Medical College, Prithviraj, a third year engineering student of Jain College, and Vedamurthy, Raghu and Srikanth, who work in a private firm. While Murthy sustained severe injuries on his legs, the others suffered injuries to the head and face, police said. They are undergoing treatment at Rajarajeswari Medical College.

According to Vedamurthy, the students had gone to Savanadurga on Sunday. They decided to return only on Monday morning as it was late in the night and they were drunk. When they were resting, a large number of villagers started attacking them with lethal weapons, accusing them of being cattle thieves. They pleaded with the villagers, but in vain. Despite repeated requests, the villagers did not even give them water, Vedamurthy said.

The villagers claimed cattle and sheep were being stolen every day for the last few months. As the police did not take any action, the villagers formed teams and began night patrolling. While patrolling on Sunday night, they spotted the students’ car. Assuming the thieves were back, the villagers attacked the students.

The BJP Bhakts who firmly stood along with moral policing must learn a lesson from this episode.

There are law enforcement agencies, no doubt they are corrupt and partial, instead of beating up people, the pressure should be on the enforcement agencies to reform and perform.

BJP bhakts will now realize such incidents can happen to them also. If they themselves get caught in any such incident in a different area, petrolled by yet another moral policing gang. By the time they tell who they really are and what they were doing, they will have their bones broken.

So, please work towards bringing reforms in law enforcement and do not try bring RSS laws, with a moral policing tag. That is calling for your own thrashing.

Let us emphasize on the reported news once again & re-think before any comments and I quote -
"They decided to return only on Monday morning as it was late in the night and they were drunk."

The name of the poor victims itself make us feel the pain even more when the allegedly innocent villagers are brain washed to engage in such a heinous acts of intolerance (open for correction if anything in my view is found wrong).

Without any prejudice.., it makes me remind me of an age old adage - "what goes around ..., comes around".

The Villagers taking the law in their own hand and thrashing the students is unwanted. How can anybody take the law in their own hand when the the judiciary and law is there in India. All the people involved in this should be booked so that no citizen takes the law in his hand. At the most any citizen is allowed to catch a culprit if he really is and to hand over to police. who has given the right to the public to manhandle any citizen of India. This case should be taken strictly so that nobody does this to any innocents persons anymore. In India it has become a fashion to simply manhandle anybody whether he is wrong or right by the public without knowing.

Very Good this was the last thing to happen, its becoming law less land. Strict action should be take on these villagers in a democratic country this is not allowed on any one. Villagers should have caught hold of the youth and informed the police if they thought they are thieves.

Did you forget about Kabeer case? The officer who confronted the cattle thief was suspended and the thieves family was given a compensation of 25 lakhs.
If you hand over cattle thieves to the police, they will garland them and send them home. Bavas will call press conferences !!

Dear Dev / Shanker yours mind set is limited, one mistake cannot be corrected by another mistake. I never mentioned what happened to villagers is correct. But what they did for these youths is wrong. I still hope the actual thieves are caught and punished. Don't compare an apple to an orange because both are round. Hope your commonsense prevails.
