John Carpenter slams 'The Walking Dead'

Los Angeles, Jul 5 (IANS): Veteran horror filmmaker John Carpenter has slammed popular zombie-themed TV series "The Walking Dead".

"That was a movie that George Romero made back in 1968 ('Night of the Living Dead'), and they have milked that," Carpenter said during an appearance on WTF Podcast, reports aceshowbiz.com.

"And they are still milking it," he added.

The 68-year-old filmmaker, who is known for his work on cult classics like "Assault on Precinct 13" (1976), "The Fog" (1980) and "The Thing" (1982), feels that the horror genre is due for "a new beginning, a resurgence".

"Horror movies have been with us since the beginning of cinema, and it is always the same. Most of them are bad, a few are average and a couple are really good," Carpenter said.

"They keep changing with the culture. It is like with Vietnam. You saw the violence change. Horror movies change, too. So they'll change again," he added.
