Smriti loses HRD portfolio, DVS divested of law ministry

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi

New Delhi, Jul 5: In a major reshuffle of cabinet portfolios following the induction of 19 new faces in the BJP-led union government, Smriti Irani lost the coveted HRD ministry while Sadananda Gowda lost the law portfolio.

Smriti Irani has now been given the charge of textiles ministry and Prakash Javadekar, who was elevated to the rank of cabinet minister, will now head the HRD ministry.

Sadananda Gowda, who, according to reports, was expected to be dropped from the cabinet, has been assigned the less important ministry of statistics and programme implementation.

The law ministry has been given to Ravi Shankar Prasad, sources said. He was previously the minister of communication and information technology.

Parliamentary affairs ministry has been divested from Venkaiah Naidu and given to Ananth Kumar.

Arun Jaitley will retain the finance ministry, but lost the information and broadcasting ministry to Venkaiah Naidu, who is also the urban development minister.

M J Akbar, one of the new entrants in the cabinet, has been made minister of state for external affairs.

The shifting of Smriti Irani does not surprise anybody. What is surprising, however, is that it took so long for the P.M. to take this long overdue decision. It was a fallacy on the part of the P.M. to believe that the incompetent Smriti would be able to do justice to the faith he had reposed in her. As was widely expected, she just could not give a good account of herself and made a mockery of the responsibilities entrusted to her. Now that she has been relieved of her burden, what next? Unfortunately, the man who is to lead the HRD ministry also does not exude confidence and it is more like a case of jumping from the frying pan to the fire. This reinforces the impression that this important ministry is under the complete control of the bosses in Nagpur and the P.M. is forced to toe their line by ing a person hand picked by those whose tunes he dances to.

Smriti Irani, your main goal in 2014 was to take off the Christmas Holiday from the Indian calendar and to enlist that date as the birth day of Sri. Vajapyee, but you have failed miserably. Now you lost that portfolio.

Sri. Sadandana Gowda, you got the second slapping under the Gujarathi imperialism shifted from the Railway to Law to something else now. Please refuse this posting.

The electorate of India will be watching the real color of the Gujarathi imperialism one day at a time. The GDP predictions of India by the Finance Minister and the rest would be proved as totally misleading political rhetoric.

When people never able to control ministry popularly need changes. In the matter of smriti irani rightly done to keep opposition shut about her degree. It's now her favourite ministry of textiles...women's pride. Should depend upon all councils like synthetic, apparel, cotton or silk and deal with office of Textile Commissioner. Export is main concern in this ministry. May be she handle it very well. As also wants to involve with commerce and finance.
Regarding gawda..not look like adjust with any ministries. Should improve a lot and show his efficiency. Will keep and continue upto next karnatka vidhan sabha election...some what safe ministry.
