Mangaluru, Jul 6: In a curious incident which occurred near Kuthar temple near Ullal on Monday Jul 5 afternoon, an educated woman, who arrived in a two-wheeler, kicked up commotion and threw tantrums. The scene provided entertainment many and gave rise to concern among several others. The episode finally ended with the intervention of police personnel from Ullal station who admitted the lady into the department of psychiatry in a private hospital in the city.

The woman, who was aged around 25, was moving towards the city from Deralakatte in her two-wheeler, when she suddenly stopped near Kuthar temple and started to shout loudly. Even though some locals tried to calm her down by speaking softly, she was uncontrollable. She repeatedly kept saying that she has split personality disorder like the one depicted in the movie 'Ghajini'.

In a short while, a large crowd of eager onlookers gathered there. Ullal police reached the spot shortly but when they ventured near the woman, she began to threaten them with dire consequences and see that they are jailed, if they touch her. She then started to agitatedly move around the temple. When some women offered her food and tried to pacify her, she remained hostile and incommunicable.

Thereafter, several persons came together to help her into the police van through which she was taken to a private hospital. Ullal police had a horrid time pacifying the woman, as they had only one woman constable. The people were critical of the fact that they came with only a single lady constable.

It is learnt that the woman, who suffers from psychological disorders, is under medication. On Monday, she had come to Deralakatte. She is an engineering graduate, and was seen to be fluently scolding and threatening others in English.

I know this girl. And she's currently working for the past one year for the US government. The real story behind this incident is that that police were harassing her since she was smoking a cigarette outside a tea shop. There were males smoking as well but because she was a woman, the crowd seemed to have an issue. Laws are the same for men and women. She was arguing with the police about the impartiality that the country faced just because she was a woman and they were insisting that she come to the station with them for no fault of hers whatsoever. She fought with them for her rights until she was forced and carried by random men from the crowd including the woman constable to sit in the police car. She wasn't admitted anywhere and her mother and brother took her away from the police back to safety at her home in Mangalore. Even her parents know she smokes cigarettes sometimes. She was a 26 yr old working woman at the time of this incident and has every right to make her own decisions. It's a shame how the police cover up their stories with rubbish like this in this country.
