Mangaluru, Jul 6: As the entire district receives normal to good rain fall, many commuters who depend on buses for transportation, are put to hardship because of lack of proper bus stands in city.

The district administration has organized several meetings with regard to building proper bus stands but they have not been able to solve the problem. MCC has also acquired land for bus stands but have not been able to materialize the plan.

The condition of both the bus stands at State bank has worsened. People who wait for buses during heavy rains have to hold their umbrella to avoid the water leakage from the roof tops.

The bus stand near Lady Goshen hospital is filled with rainwater. People cannot even enter the bus stand. Moreover, the stagnant rain water is normal feature at the bus stand during monsoon.

It is also studied that a drain near a private bus stand premises was found open without proper covering. While the pedestrians walk on the way, many have slipped into the drains.

Lack of drain for rain water and proper footpath has been haunting pedestrians during the monsoon.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Mayor Harinath assured to take immediately action and said, “I have already directed the MCC officials to repair the bus stand roof at State bank. I will also discuss with MCC officials to take proper measure against the lapses.”

Very interesting comments from all of educated gentlemen but one thing is true that those who sent comments are not using the bus stand. We mangaloreans are always criticizing others. When a poor person asking for a small help we give him 2 bad words and send him empty handed. When we passing any bus stop we want to see our vehicles by bystand people and show our wealth this is the attitude of Mangaloreans. Many of us educated but we do not have heart, still we have to learn lot of good things from Mumbai people. I apologize if I hurt anybody's sentiment.

Noting surprising..here you see a bus stop.there are so many places where there is no bus stop or they have demolished the bus stops places like padil, kadri etc.just hav a look at the bus stop in nanthoor,if it rains we just cannot stand there due to the water flow, and uneven place with stones.show these places to the person who recommends "smart city".in which angle mangalore can be a smart city, where the basic facilities are not in shape.only areas of are so called public people is being decorated with all facilities.

Local MLC and MLA are busy on propaganda programs. Faces and names on banners and Traffic Barricades.
Look at some of the barricades are driving the people to death.
Mayor is talking but not acting. Before He goes for other problems, let Him go to back side of MCC Building. Look at the garbage pile with standing water right behind Ivan's office. Look at torn banners are thrown on MCC ground and water is standing stagnant to breed mosquitoes. Then just look to the back gate with interlocks throwing the bikers off track. I have given a complaint to Ivan's office on 25-10-2014. Twenty one months passed and now the gate crossing has become graveyard crossing. Empty pans making loud noises. These Politicians are only there to fill their pockets.

But they will never respond. It is of no use in sending letters or mails to our Indian useless politicians, by wasting our valuable time. I met Ivan in one of the functions in Bengaluru in January. Wow!! What a beautiful look of our Mangalore city especially look at the pathetic conditions of bus stands all over the city. These are the symptoms of would be smart city. How bad, how filthy, how worst and how being maintained. What may the condition of the people waiting for the bus to catch to their respective destinations. From all fronts I mean starting from conditions of roads, drainage system, dilapidated conditions of some old buildings, public toilets and maintenance etc, Mangalore is definitely going to get the tag Smart City soon based on the conditions of the things mentioned above.
Believe it or not, recently I happened to go to Karkala by our own vehicle from Padubidri. What a pondless, ditch less highway, clean and neat bus stands built on either side of the road and beauty of the nature on either side of the highway. It really made us to drive happily without any tiredness. One should visit that place and emulate them in Mangalore. That entire stretch itself looks very beautiful.
My only suggestion is that in order to get Smart city tag, concerned authorities, officials, departments should work in hand in hand and with so much of co-operation without bringing any political issue or ego in this regard and must address all these shortcomings first in the best interest of developments, beauty of our city and then try for smart city. Otherwise it will remain as it is and will be a dream only always.

This is the state of affairs of all Government managed properties.

    1. Whatever constructed will be of very low quality
    2. There will be poor maintenance or no maintenance after it is constructed.

Monies get released bu t we do not know how it get spent.
Even if we see the KSRTC bus stand in our capital Bengaluru, it shows a sorry state of affairs. No maintenance. Same is the case in all most all bus stands or public properties.

Yes, this is the state of our public transport system, because the private bus mafia is ruling than any party if it is BJP or Cong the state is same. At least in the above photo's there is a skeleton of the bus stand. There are some roads which have no sign of bus stands, just have a look at the Mother Teresa road erstwhile Falnir road there are no proper bus stands on this road. Even opposite the Bishop's house at Kodialbail near the Karnataka bank there is no proper bus stand. Now the VHP,BD, or the Moral Police should ask for bus stands. Good job by Daijiworld
