Mangaluru, Jul 6: Food and civil supplies minister U T Khader extended his wishes on the occassion of Eid-ul-Fitr and briefed about the measures taken to control the price of neccessary commodities in the state.
Essential commodities
Addressing a press meet here at Eden Garden Club on July 6, Khader said, "According to the directives of the centre, new guidelines have been formed to maintain the prices of essential commodities in the state. Prices of commodities like red gram/toor dal, sugar, edible oil and other essential commodities have increased sharply. In order to get the prices of red gram/toor dal under control we have spoken to red gram/toor dal growers association and fixed a price of Rs 130 per kg. I thank the association for extending all their cooperation,"
"We have issued guidelines to all the retail shop owners not to exceed the stock of red gram/toor dal beyond 50 quintal. Whereas wholesalers in rural areas should not exceed the stock of 1000 quintal and in urban areas 2000 quintal. If any retailers or wholesaler keep more stock than the given guideline, then action will be taken against such outlets and stock will be seized. Since red gram/toor dhal is an essential commodity the prices of these commodities have increased sharply. The main objective of these guidelines is to control the prices of these commodities," he added.
"Red gram/toor dal will be sold in the open market at Rs 130 per kg at all APMC markets in the state from July 8. The sale campaign will be flagged off at Yashavanthpur APMC on July 8. The retailers can buy from the APMC markets and can sell with a fair margin," Khader said.
Ration cards
Commenting on the pending ration card seeding with aadhar card he said, "About 10 percent seeding is pending and we have directed all the deputy directors not to stop giving ration to ration card holders whose cards are not seeded. Our objective is that ration should reach every person and benefit them. In the bid of stopping fake ration cards, it should not affect the eligible people. So we have directed all the district deputy directors not to stop ration without inquiry," he explained.
"Even after directing, the deputy director of Mysuru had stopped the supply of ration to ration card holders whose cards were not seeded. So I have asked the principal secretary to ask for an explanation and serve the notice. There are about 15 lac ration cards pending to be issued which will be cleared shortly," he concluded.
