Mangaluru, Jul 7: A notorious chain snatcher attacked a policeman and managed to escape, leaving the cops red-faced. The incident was reported at Padil under Mangaluru rural police limits on Thursday July 7.

The accused Kaushik Nihal allegedly attacked a policeman identified as Sunil of city crime branch (CCB) police.

Sources said that on receiving information that Kaushik would be coming to Padil, the CCB cops lay in wait for him. But when they tried to catch hold of him, he brandished a knife and attacked Sunil before escaping from the spot.

Sources also said that in a bid to stop the accused, the police fired in the air.

It is learnt that though Sunil did not sustain serious injuries, his clothes were torn.

Kaushik is wanted in more than 16 cases, sources said.
