Bengaluru, Jul 7: After its futile bid to bring a Bill to ban Superstitions and Superstitious Practices, Karnataka is now considering a Bill for Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifices and other Inhuman Evil and Aghori Practices as well as Black Magic.

The Bill, modelled on a similar legislation in neighbouring BJP-Shiv Sena ruled Maharashtra, is expected to be taken up for consideration at the next meeting the State Cabinet.

The Karnataka Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifices and other Inhuman Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Bill, 2016 could well be introduced in the ongoing session of the State Legislature.

Karnataka, however, is likely to come out with some modifications to the Maharastra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013.

On account of the widespread protests from religious leaders and also opposition BJP, the Siddaramaiah ministry was forced to drop the move to bring the anti-Superstitions Bill, the draft of which was ready.

It is understood that the Karnataka version of the Bill prohibiting human sacrifices and other inhuman practices as also black magic will not mention Superstitions. However, many of the proposals in the earlier version, are likely to be incorporated in the proposed Bill, which will be taken up by the State Cabinet for consideration at its next meeting.

The Opposition BJP had strongly opposed the earlier version of the Bill.

The modified Bill is understood to have been drafted after consultations with several legal experts, seers and activists.
