Mangaluru, Jul 8: The district BJP on Friday July 8 demanded the arrest of minister K J George and officers A M Prasad and Pranab Mohanty who were named by DySP M K Ganapati in an interview before he committed suicide, and reportedly also in his death note. The party also demanded CBI probe into the case.

Ganapati, who was serving as DySP in IGP (western range) office in Mangaluru, hanged himself in a lodge in Madikeri on Thursday July 7.

Addressing a press meet at the district BJP office, the party's district president Sanjeeva Matandoor said, "The state government must arrest the ones mentioned in the death note by DySP M K Ganapati and must hand over the investigation to CBI, as a minister of the state government is also involved in the case.

"DySP Ganapati's suicide depicts the failure and political interference of the state government in the police department. The state administration is in such a condition that no officer can work freely. Inspector Mallikarjun Bande's death, DySP M K Ganapati's suicide, harassment of DC Shikha, and suicide of D K Ravi, all these cases point at the interference of the Congress ministers and MLAs and their followers in various departments. All these incidents show the kind of pressure which the police department faces in the state," he said.

"Every MLA and minister has been misusing his power to suppress the officers. For example, the way Ugrappa took the officers to task (during recent visit to Mangaluru). The way women officers are treated shows the suppressive attitude of the Congress leaders. Hence DySP M K Ganapati's case must be handed over to CBI as the officers of the state will not be able to investigate freely." he demanded.

Asked if same measures should be taken in the case of DySP Kallappa's suicide, Matandoor said, "There is no need for CBI probe in this case as the CID and the state police will be able to solve it."

On reports about a BJP leader's role in DySP Kallappa's suicide, he said that the accusation was 'politically motivated' and 'false'.

"The BJP will stage rigorous campaigns and protests in all the centers of the 8 constituencies in the district and will work towards extending moral support to police officers," he said.

Udupi district BJP wants George to be sacked

Mangaluru, Jul 8: “The state government must hand over the investigation of DySP MK Ganapati's suicide to CBI as a senior minister and senior officers are involved in the case,” said Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde, the president of the Udupi district BJP unit.

Addressing the media persons in the district BJP office, he pointed out that the farmers’ suicides have stopped and the suicides of government officials have rocked the state. “Right from suspicious death of Inspector Mallikarjun Bande, DySP M K Ganapati's suicide, harassment of DC Shikha, and suicide of D K Ravi, which still is a mystery, show that there no scope for sincere officers in the state and rather the state has become a insecure place for work,” Hegde said.

“The Siddaramaiah government has given 'Suicide Bhagya' to the state. A person does not lie when he is about to die. Hence the government must take the death note seriously. Since KJ George's name is mentioned, he must be sacked as a minister. It is not right to hand over the investigation to CID as influential people are involved and it must be handed over to the CBI,” Hegde demanded.

“In normal cases, the person who abets suicide is arrested immediately but in this case nothing of this sort has been done. K J George must be subjected to enquiry.” Hegde concluded.

District secretary Koilady Suresh Naik, office bearers Yashpal Suvarna, Suprasad Shetty, Prabhakar Poojary and others were present.

Karnataka CM orders probe into DySP Ganapati's suicide

Bengaluru, Jul 8 (IANS): The Karnataka government on Friday ordered an inquiry into the unnatural death of Deputy Superintendent of Police M.K. Ganapati, 51, who allegedly committed suicide on Thursday at Madikeri in Kodagu district, 270 km from here.

"I have ordered a CID inquiry into the death of the DSP (Ganapati) after I was briefed on Thursday night about the unfortunate incident at Madikeri. I am saddened by it," Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told reporters here.

Police, who found Ganapati's body hanging from a ceiling fan with his service revolver around his waist, shifted it to a state-run hospital for autopsy to ascertain the cause of death and investigate reasons for him to take such an extreme step.

"The inquiry team will study the suicide note Ganapati left behind in the room. Its content will also be investigated though I am not aware of what he wrote. The government will take action after getting the CID report though I too learnt that he had named two senior police officers and a minister," Siddaramaiah said.

Hours before he hanged himself, Ganapati gave an interview to a private news channel in which he held two Indian Police Service officers and a state minister responsible for harassing and driving him to take the extreme step.

"The inquiry will also investigate the TV interview after getting its footage from the news channel and analysing its content," the Chief Minister asserted.

Ganapati named Additional Director General of Police (intelligence) A.M. Prasad, Lokayukta Inspector General of Police Pronab Mohanty and Bengaluru Development Minister and former Home Minster K.J. George, who hails from Kodagu district, as responsible for harassing him and putting pressure on him in various criminal and corruption cases.

Though Ganapati was posted at the IGP office in Mangaluru on the west coast, he drove to Madikeri early Thursday and checked into a lodge near the outstation bus stand and was seen going out in the afternoon in uniform.

When local police went to the lodge to ask Ganapati about the interview, its receptionist found him hanging in the room.

Responding to the charge by the deceased police official, George said he had no connection with Ganapathy and had no personal issues with him and never harassed him.

"I have no connection with him. I have no personal issue with him. I never harassed him. Even in the TV interview he only mentioned in the last K J George Home Minister," he said.

Reacting to BJP's demand for his resignation, George said it has been demanding it from day one of his assuming charge as the minister.

"Let BJP produce proof or evidence that I had harassed the official. How can one resign on a mere allegation. If they have proof, let them come out with it.There should be some truth before I give my resignation," he said.

Ganapathy's wife Pavana said, "We only know that he had pressure from the department. He has said what ever he had to. We don't know any thing, he used to say same things to us often."

This is the second such incident this week, three days after Chikkamagaluru Rural Deputy Superintendent of Police Kalappa Handibagh, 34, hanged himself at Belagavi, about 500 km from Bengaluru.

Ganapati was transferred to Mangaluru inspector general of police office in May.

"He (Ganapati) declared in the interview that if anything happened to him in future, George, Prasad and Mohanty would be responsible," a police source told IANS.

A 1991-batch officer of the state cadre, Ganapati entered the police service under sports quota. He hailed from a hamlet at Siddhappur near Madikeri. He leaves behind widow Pavana and two sons.

CBI enquiry should also include late Ganapathi's active role in 2008 Church attack in Mangalore and subsequently beating up the Nuns and other ladies by Ganapathi for protesting peacefully against Church attack.
Also probe Ganapathi's role in encouraging single number lotary in Mangalore as he was caught red-handed for being god-father of such illegal lottery.

Why BJP wants CBI inquiry? Is it because he was their man?
Leaving suicide note and committing suicide is not something worth? When DySP committed suicide because of political pressure, what about common man, who are persecuted every day?!!!

When churches were attacked and DySP also payed active role why this CBI inquiry was not called by BJP.

What sort of inquiry to conduct now, since he is no more? Did he complain to anyone? Also while he has a rented apartment in Mangalore, why he should stay in Madikeri and commit suicide in the Hotel. May be his guilt consciousness did not allow him to live, or perhaps GOD did not please with act.

Some say he was sincere it may be possible he was favorable to some, it doesn't mean that, he is honest. If honest, he would have faced the challenge and fought till his last breath.
